Someone please help

Fi
I have already posted a question about a week ago concerning my diarreah.
Thank you for your suggestions of Probiotics and a liver flush.
I am going on my third week of diarreah, I am taking immodium for it every two to three days, otherwise, I would be continually sick over and over again.
I had a blood test done -no results
I had 6 stool samples done to check for parasites and bacteria - no results.
I had an upper GI done - no results
I am not loosing blood in my stools or mucus (rules out crohn's disease)
And I am pretty sure I do no have IBS: I only have diarreah and gas, other than that I feel fine.
I even stopped taking milk products to make sure I was not lactose intolerant - that got ruled out.
When I am on Immodium, nothing is wrong with me, I feel great, (besides a couple of gas pains here and there that are quickly releived.)
When the immodium wear's off, it is quick run to the bathroom three to four times a day.
I guess my question is: Can someone please give me any suggestion to what I have or may be subjected to.
Anything I can do to get rid of this diarreah...
Is IBS a possibility based upon the above information, even though I feel that I do not hold much of the symptoms?
Someone please help, I am afraid to go on my vacation coming up because of this *bathroom* issue, and work becomes a bit of an embarrasement, because I have to continually excuse myself so I cna run to the bathroom.
Please help, I do not know how much more of this I can take.

I haven't read all the responses, but I do have some info you might find interesting.

My husband has Crohn's.  He takes a long list of meds and it is under control for the most part.  I spent months on the internet researching alternative solutions, but he is not interested....  he likes getting meds from the MD's.

My 18 year old son has had chronic diahrea for a few years on and off.  He went through all the testing with no conclusion.  We were at the point of getting him a colonoscopy, when I asked if he would try one thing for me first.....  just try acidophilus for a two week period to see if it helped.  He agreed.

Within one day...  yes one day...  he noticed improvement.  He now gets diarhea only if he misses taking the acidohilus pills.  You can bet he rarely misses.  They sit on the kitchen counter where he is sure to see them.

He started this back in the early spring.  We are meaning to get to the Dr. to see why this is working, but....  it works, so the urgency is no longer there.

I hope this will help you too.

Hi, Have you been checked for Ulcerative Colitis? That only affects your colon.  My husband was diagnosed with that in 1996 & that's how his started out.  You really need to have a colonoscopy (spelling?) done if you haven't already.  Hope this helps.

Since you are a medical professional, maybe you could tell me what causes so many hernias. I don't do anything strenuous to cause the rip and I am meshed from pelvic to breast bone and on my left side. My daughter is also a medical professional, but she is not a doctor--an audiologist--none the less, she is a medical professional. I only took Librax for a short time, because if you had 10 surgeries in two years, you would surely need something for stress. I no longer see the gastro-doctor who suggested I had IBS, because he was, as you put it, treating the symptoms not the cause. Also there is alot to be said about some doctors judgement, my family physician said my surgeon should have taken my gall bladder out while he had me opened. Do doctors taken out healthy organs, just because they have you opened? I hope you can give me some medical info on my condition. I am going to see the surgeon today about the burning and stabbing pain in my abdomen.

If you do have ibs there is no quick fix for this condition.
You and your doctor have to work together to find out for sure what it is. Plus you are going to have to watch what you eat and start incorporating soluable fiber into your diet. You can't keep taking Immodium. With all the tests you have taken you say ..no results..does that mean negative? My doctor came to the conclusion after giving me tests in 1998 that i have ibs. It started with a pain in my left side..no diahrrea at first.
Last week I ate some fruit (a plum) for a snack at 3.00 in the afternoon for 3 days straight, i started to get cramping in the area underneath my belly button from one side of my abdomen to the other side. When I stand up..it feels like i am standing on my intestines...i can feel it throbbing and that whole area feels bruised and swollen. When i am going through one of these flare ups , if i stand on my feet too long i get terrible sharp needle like pains in this area and basically have to stay off my feet until the inflamation goes down. Also just standing up or taking a sip of water can send me running to the toilet.

I also get sharp pains in my thighs and legs from this but then i can get that too when my hemmoroid flares up from this. i usually try to ride it out by letting my system settle down by eating extremely light for a few days. The times when i am on the diahrea for more then a week or so i develop a fever and then i must see my doctor to get some help. My doctor has told me when you are on the diahrrea for more then a week it can turn into a bacteria diahrrea and that's when i develop a fever. I do use Immodium too the odd time ,,just to give me a break and when my diahrrea is not accompanied by a fever.
You know...you wish you could take an Immodium and have this ailment just go away , never to return but I think this is something you are going to have to work with your doctor on. Something is causing your diahrrea and you should find out what it is. You may not have all the symptoms i have but remember mine started out with just a pain in my left side .
take care and be well

Dear Bionic Granny,

I wish I could help you about hernias, but it isn't my area of expertise! I hope that others who do know about hernias will share their thoughts with you. Also, keep looking for a really good doc who can help you too! Hang in there!

It sounds like you're having a rough time. I am sorry to hear that. When you say you've had all these tests and "no results" do you mean negative results or no results at all? The upper GI series can rule out Crohn's Disease but just because you are not actively bleeding does not rule out Crohn's. Also, you didn't say anywhere that you have had a colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy done. These are tests that can look at the large bowel to see if there is any inflammtion or activity going on. No matter what anyone tells you in this forum, PLEASE seek your answers from your physician. If you can not get answers from your doctor and you desire a second opinion, seek out a new doctor. With that said, I can tell you from experience that you do have IBS symptoms. IBS does cause diarrhea and gas along with cramping. You do not have bleeding with IBS so I wouldn't be suprised if you have no "blood loss". With such frequent loose stools you need to really watch out for electrolyte problems and excessive fluid loss. But most importantly, see your physician to obtain more tests if needed and get the answers you want from there. I hope you feel well soon. Take care...

Since you have had all the test done to rule out bacterial infections, did your doctor suggest that you might have IBS? Are you under alot of stress, or anxious all the time? Ask him about this, because you don't have to have all the syptoms of IBS. Ask your doctor about chlordiazepoxide & clidinium. I took this for my diarrhea and it did help me. But also ask about the side effects of this drug, because it is also habit forming. They use this drug for IBS, because it has a tranquilzer in it. I hope you get some relief, because I know what it's like not to go out and live a normal life.

Dear Bionic Granny,

I actually agree with most of what you said! :-)

I think you didn't get to read my whole last message, or you would have seen that I agree with you. ALWAYS check with your doc first. It was such a long posting that you might not have seen where I agreed with you.

I used to be a nurse, and have seen plenty of malpractice, so that's why I urge patients to be careful. There are some good docs, but they are not the majority, in my experience, unfortunately.

I do think you are right, that herbs can act like medications, and therefore do have the potential for bad interactions. That's why I said, in my previous posting, that a doctor should be consulted in advance, to be sure that any of the "tips" would be OK, and not interact badly with a patient's meds or medical condition!

To answer your other question: No, I don't get paid by anyone--I only share what helped my husband and me, and what others told me helped them. I work for a living, and it's unrelated to my comments here.

Hang in there, Bionic Granny. I like your postings, even if I don't totally agree. :-)

Sincerely, Concerned lady'

The medication that bionic is talking about is called Librax(chlordiazepoxide/clidinium). It is an anti-anxiolytic and anti-spasmodic combined to help with stress and anxiety that may be exacerbating the symptoms of IBS. But, do yourself a favor and find out what the cause is before you treat the symptoms. As a medical professional, I can tell you that as humans, we want instant gratification. We want results NOW! And as an effect of this mentality, we overuse antibiotics and other medications because we are so quick to treat symptoms as opposed to treating the cause. So...find out what the problem is first and go from there. Good luck and take care.

actually, no blood in the stool doesn't rule out Crohn's.  it wasn't until I was severely sick that the blood showed up.  if you haven't been seeing a gastroenterologist, I would start.   I'd think a colonoscopy would be your best bet, since you've had stool cultures done.  fiber can help with diarrhea, sounds contradictory, but trust me, it works.  good luck

Maybe you can help me find information on why I keep getting hernias. I had a staph, enterococcus and pneumonia after losing my spleen. The infection caused my gastro-tract to rupture and I have had nothing but problems with hernias since. 10 surgeries and I still hurt when I eat and lift anything or even turning over in bed makes me cringe. I have gone on to a web-site for adhesions and yes I did have alot of them. Had surgery to remove them and my intestines went to sleep--had to have an NG tube put in for the fourth time in two years. Could the staph have caused all these problems? One nurse told me that sometimes death is better than surviving a staph. I just want anyone out there to help me with some info--I want my active life back.

P.S. I forgot to tell you how I got my information. My daughter's boyfriend is a toxicologist and I sent him some of your info.

I was just wondering if you are a doctor, because you always have unkind things to say about doctors and you put these words in capital letters? Also be careful about those "natural things" you suggest to people. Are the herbalist paying you to push these things? If someone doesn't know enough about herbs, they could be harm more by the use of them. If you are not a herbalist or nutrionist, I think some of these things you list are not good. A doctor will tell you the things herbs can do to you. You never suggested or told anyone in this forum that herbs can have a serious affect on you, if you under go anesthesia or dental work. Just thought I would let you know that you should not be pushing herbs onto people who should be seeing a doctor first.

Some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS (without acid blockers):

GER=Gastro-Esophageal Reflux. (Gastro=stomach. Esophagus=food tube.)

LPR= Laryngeal-Pharyngeal Reflux. (Larynx=voice box, containing the 2 vocal cords. Pharynx=throat, above the larynx. The larynx is above the trachea/windpipe.)

Reflux=acidic or alkaline stomach material that backs up into the esophagus (food tube), causing any of these problems: VCD/Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Laryngospasm attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc.

SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. Murray, N.D. See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com   and, also see GER/LPR info on page 5, and on LINKS page.

PLEASE READ THIS GREAT BOOK. It may possibly be bought on-line, from Michael T. Murray

I don't know what is causing your diarrhea, but it sounds like you need some BETTER DOCTORS to help you find out what's going on!

I'm going to post some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS, not because I think you have gastric reflux, but because a whole bunch of various problems are listed in there, as food for thought!

See DIFFERENT, BETTER, SPECIALIST DOCS, and read the "tips" for food for thought.

I wish you the best!
