Ulcerative Colitis?

Hello Doctor,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I think I have ulcerative Colitis. My stomach usually hurts and I have to go the bathroom frequently throughout the day.  A lot of times I suffer from fecal incontinence where i will go back to the bathroom like a half hour after I eat and I will wipe and there will be something on the toilet paper.  I do not know what to do. Also, sometimes when i look at my stool there is like a red flake or something, can that be blood? Can blood show up in the form of a flake. usually there is just like 1 flake.  But yeah, i'm trying to figure out if this could be colitis, crohns or like irritable bowel disease. this has been happening for about a year now. If you could give me your opinion and on if you think there is blood in my stool and what I should do, I would greatly appreciate it.  I also eat very unhealthily... and coffee and soda seem to irritate my digestive system as well.  Actually this all started when i started drinking coffee allot. Thank you again for taking the time to answer my question. .

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Ulcerative colitis can lead to the symptoms you describe, among other diseases.

I would also consider celiac disease, malabsorption, or other types of lower GI infections.

If there is blood on the stool, or if the diarrhea continues, a colonoscopy should be performed.

Sending the stool off for culture and analysis can be done to exclude infection or malabsorption.

If celiac disease is suspected, blood antibody tests can be done as well.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
