Ultrasound of Liver

I have a background of barrett's esphogus, have had a fundo plication where they also fixed a hiatel hernia(6 years ago) and quit smoking a year ago. I have gained some weight from not smoking. My stomach had been bothering me so I had an abdominal ultrasound..some pain, bloating, etc. I have a small hernia that has popped through the site of an incision for the fundo plication. The ultrasound findings were : Liver is diffusely echogenic consistent with fatty filtration and no focal lesions.
I drink only once a week( 2 - 3 drinks) so I know this is not alcohol related.
What does this mean and what are the next steps.

Thank you for your response. However, most of what I have read on-line suggests that I  should have a liver biopsy to confirm this NASH diagnosis. Is this what you would recommend as well?

Also, I am scheduled for liver function bloodwork because one of them was elevated but I am not scheduled for viral hep..Should I insist on that test as well?

And finally, can this condition be related to elevated triglycerides and if yes, would I have to take medication for that?

Thank you. I look forward to your response.

Fatty liver is normally due to alcohol use, or NASH - non-alcohol steatohepatitis.

The former condition can be treated with abstinence from alcohol.  The latter disease requires lifestyle changes such as weight loss and exercise.

Obtaining blood tests to evaluate the liver function as well as viral hepatitis is recommended as well.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.
