Hi, I just had my sons upper GI done this morning and the weak esophagus is what they told us too. But they think he's also got a duodenal ulcer. He's only 7 but has a history of severe asthma, alot of really hard, violent coughing and vomiting, which is, from what I understand, to blame for his problems. It also showed spasms in the esophagus and duodenum.
We're picking up 2 prescriptions tomorrow, don't remember what he said they are, but I sure hope they work! It was interesting to watch his upper GI being done, it explained alot, I watched how the Barium "didn't" move thru the path it should, most of the time it just kind of "sat there" not sure which way to go, and the narrowing esophagus was very visible, as was the tiny, narrow path to the small intestine. So just seeing this all made things much more clear for me, as a mom. And spasms, according to my medical dictionary also mean "constriction of a passage", which, for my sons case, makes perfect sense for his symptoms.
I can just see his dinner or late snack laying there in his stomach, not sure what to do or which way to go, up or down, and it usually comes back up and wakes him out of a sleep just to throw up! For 2 days now it's been hiccups bothering him. So we can relate to your story too, believe me. Good luck, Becky
Gosh, poor guy! I sure hope the medicine helps. Did they say whether his weak esophagus would heal or is that something he will always have?
