A related discussion,
Does Nexium cause knee pain? was started.
I take Aciphex (80 mg a day) and have found that it causes severe constipation. I didn't know about the blockage of vitamins. Does taking extra supplements help?
I have been on Nexium for over a year. I have had bad reactions to all the acid blockers. I am one of the few people who have trouble with them. I can only tolerate about 15 mg daily. I just wanted to mention that I don't think it would cause the problems you have. That is just my opinion. I researched it before I took it. It it from the makers of Prolisec.
thank you so much for your comment - I thought I had read somewhere that it cause you not to absorb some vitamins, thus leading to sickness and stuff. I'll have to speak to my doctor about that when i go in two weeks. Do you happen to know, if I was taking vitamins, my stomach still wouldn't absorb them because of the nexium? Anyway, thanks so much for your help
PS.
Sorry about my typing..it is not week..but weak :o)
Dumb finger syndrome...
Being on Proton Pump Acid Inhibitors for long term..which block your stomach acid can have an effect on you. You absorb alot of your vitamins through your stomach acid..one of them being vitamin B12...if you are deprived of this vitamin for a duration it can effect your nervous system. The first signs of this is a tingling feeling in your fingers and toes. That could be the reason why you are getting colds and such, without the absorbtion of essential vitamins your immunity system would get week and you will be more prone to catching viruses and flu bugs. You should talk to your doctor about this as alot of doctors do not tell you about the side effects and long term use. You may need to have your vitamins injected in a shot. I have done alot of reading on this as I used to take nexium but only for a short term. I don't take any pill without researching the side effects and the long term use.
Good Luck, Virgo
