blood in stool, large stool

I am a 24 year old relatively healthy person.  I have had abnormally large stools over my whole lifetime really but have recently been concerned with my habitual feces having blood in  it.  This happens from time to time usually about 3 or 4 days out of a month and usually goes away however I have had bleeding now for about 3 weeks straight, sometimes are more than others.  I realize I am very young and cautious, however after reading these testimonies, it seems like it would be smart to get a fecal blood test and maybe a sigmoidoscopy.  I do drink probably 25-30 beers a week (mostly on weekends) but have no weight problem and work out 3 to 5 times a week.  Please let me know what your thoughts are.

I would like for you to read about a condition called Celiac Disease.  Large stools is one of the symptoms of Celiac Disease and so is bleeding bowels.  Celiac Disease is not a well known disease by ordinary people or some doctors.  Many people are misdiagnosed with other diseases when they have Celiac Disease and or Dematitis Herpitaformis.  Celiac Disease is a sensitivity to gluten, rye, wheat and sometimes oats.  Beer has gluten in it.  For people with Celiac Disease gluten is like poison.  When you read about this disease you may notice symptoms that you have had for many years not knowing it was due to a reaction to gluten/wheat.   This disease can be deadly but can be reversed (most times) by simply deleting gluten from your diet.

Please take time to look this up.  Take your time and go to all the different web sites to read all you can about this condition.  These web sites also will tell you how to get tested for this condition "IF" you have it.  Just simply stop eating, consuming anything with gluten in it for about a month and see what happens.  In some countries children are tested by the age of six for this condition.   There are many Celiac Organization all over the world.  Some a trying to get legislation to make it mandatory for corporations to label all products that contain gluten!  Since this disease can be deadly and cause so many other problems within the body especially the gastrointestional area I think it should be mandatory that all products be labeled allowing  people to know if it contains gluten or not.  Some people with Celiac Disease are being diagnosed as having acne, eczema etc and that's why it never goes away.  They end up taking all  kinds of medication that they don't need and doesn't correct the problem simply because they are still consuming products that contain gluten.  Some pharmaceutical medication contain gluten and wheat as a filler.  Gluten can be found in beer, bread, cake, pies, vitamins, can soups, boxed food items (processed)etc. Some children diagnosed with IBS or people diagnosed with chrons disease simple have  Celiac Disease and just have to stop consuming gluten! People with Celiac Disease often are diagnosed with malabsorption which is also dangerous because they don't get any nutrients from the food they eat.  In this case for many years of not being able to get any nutrients into their body they get eye problems, heart problems, kidney problems, gallbladder, digestion, etc. Please check this out just in case and I hope everything works out good for you.  Just simply go to your search engine and type in Celiac Disease, Dangers of Celiac Disease, Dermatitis Herpitiformis (a condition due to Celiac Disease), Gluten free foods, Celiac Disease and beer etc.

This may not be your problem at all but I'm sure you know that bleeding bowels should be checked as soon as possible.  There could be many serious conditions associated with this such as pancreas problems, colon problems etc.  Please don't wait go and get checked now but please look up Celiac Disease due to your large bowel problems.

I am a 17 year old male I really don't know what is going on with my stooling. When i get ready to go to the bath room I feel just fine. But when I begin to start stooling at first it feels like needles are poking me. After it comes out then its just fine. But then after I finish theres blood in the stool right when I go to wipe theres blood. I used to eat alot of hot sauce when I was young and it burned when it came out. Then that was the first time blood ever came in my stool. So i finally stop eating hot food period.  I wasn't having any problems any more about hot stooling. But now its like it has all came back but no burning just blood now. It has been like this for about a month now on and off. Sometimes it doesn't bleed other times it does. I have been on blood pressure pills for almost a year now i have a herina it will be gone this summer hopefully as the doctor said. Can you please tell me whats going on with me really need to know i hate going to the doctor ever since i started everything is happen to me now this whats next nothing i hope.

Thank you very much Tori, you really bring some insight because my sister at 30 years old has just recently been lead to believe she has this problem too. Thank you very very much and I have one question for you.  She actually gained a lot weight too, is there any relation to Celiac disease and this?

At your age, things like cancer and polyps would be less likely.  Hemorrhoids would be the most likely cause.  That being said however, I agree that it is best to be cautious and consider a flexible sigmoidoscopy to ensure there are no worrying lesions causing the symptoms.  This option can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.
