dizziness after eating

I had a fainting episode this past Feb. and several near fainting  spells where I actually saw spots and everything. Been to ER at least a dozen times and on 2 occasions have had to call ambulance. All tests come back normal but I have generally felt like garbage ever since with a real good day occasionally. For the last 2-3 weeks now whenever I eat I get very dizzy as if I am going to have another episode. This thing going on after eating is just lately, last time  in ER Dr. said it could be GI related. It is like a constricting feeling around my stomach that feels like my circulation is being cut off. I have had a CT scan of my abdomen which came back normal except for an ovarian cyst which I had before 8 yrs ago and had it removed but I didn't have any of these problems with it then. The Dr said that it would not cause any of these symptoms such as the fainting, dizziness etc. Usually only abd. pain or discomfort and 8 out of 10 women have ovarian cysts and don't even know it. I am getting an ultrasound done tomorrow by my OB/GYN dr to see if it has shrunk and if not to discuss what to do about it. He took me off BC pill because of the problems I have been having as a precaution until whatever I have going on is figured out. My Dr. thinks it is anxiety/panic causing my problems but I am not so sure. I think if it is it is because of the problems that I am having anxiety/panic. It's like pulling teeth to get anyone to listen to you.My last Dr I canned actually told me to stop going to ER and put me on Effexor......what a jerk...I fired him right after.  Any ans./sugg?

Hi,
I was diagnosed with GERD about 8 months ago.  I also have dizziness and lightheadness.  Sometimes to the point where I feel like I am going to pass out, but never actually do.  The dizziness and lightheadness seemed to start about the same time that I started having problems with acid reflux.  I have asked the doc about it but claims the 2 can not be related.  However, it seems mighty strange that I always seem to have the dizziness whenever I am having heartburn or the chest pains.  Unlike you, the dizziness doesn't always happen after I eat.  There are many times that I have heartburn or chest pain or both and I haven't had a thing to eat.  Does anyone else here have these same symptoms, I am still convinced that the 2 are related. Thanks

I was diagnosed w/ Gastritis & gerd in 12/01 and experience dizziness.  One of my compliants (other than stomach problems) was dizziness.  My doc somewhat ignored that symptom too.  I have experienced it in the past - but the doc said it was due to allergies.  I won't disagree with him because once my allergy symptoms went away - so did the dizziness.

HI, I posted a similar question to the same effects you are experiencing only yesterday. I am 34 year old male, i just had my appendics removed, i have had gastro problems for a long time but learnt to live with them. My dizzy spells started a few years ago i put it down to drinking alcohol [as did my doc] so i gave that up a year ago i am still getting spells of dizziness. My doctor also thinks this may be anxiety related. I am not convinced as these spells seem to happen when my tum is sore. I am being tested for helicobacter pylori in a few weeks, maybe this will shed some light? who knows?
I would be interested in the description of your dizzy spells, { both you ladies} mine are a feeling of being quite toxic sometimes nausaeting others not. They are definately incapacitating, not completely but i do find it very difficult to even speak correctly when they are upon me! as for esculators or travelators i nearly topple over after riding these even if i am only experiencing a light spell.I have the similar kind of dizzyness you might get from wearing someone elses glasses. I will keep you guys posted if i get anymore comments or advice from others you are the first two people i have met with the same kind of symptoms.
i wish you well.
good luck .. Chris

Read about your experiences with dizziness with great interest as I am experiencing the same for many years but now it's worse than ever.  It started with aspirin over 20 years ago. I became dizzy and weak with ringing in my years.  I just quit taking aspirin but as the years have gone by I've had to eliminate alcohol, vinegar, coffee (tea is no problem)and now fruit.  After ingesting fruit I become weak and dizzy.  It seems to take about 2 weeks for the symptoms to completely disappear but until they do I'm nauseous and bloated with a headache that seems like a migraine.  I've had all the usual GI tests and have been diagnosed with GERD. Have also had Allergy tests that showed up negative. Doesn't make sense.  I'm almost feeling desperate now.

Is there anything that you guys take that helps with the GERD and/or dizziness.  I have tried everything known to man as far as prescription meds and over the counter meds.  Everything I tried worked for a week or two and then stopped.  GI doc just could not understand it.  I got fed up with it and using the tips I read from Concerned Lady, I went to the health food store and purchased the Enzymatic Therapy brand DGL.  I have been using for about 3 months.  Seemed to help but did not entirely control the GERD.  I dont eat any spicy foods, dont smoke, drink alcohol, am definitely not overweight( I went from 121 lbs to 104 lbs since November of last year).  I do all the right things that I am supposed to do, yet still seem to have the heartburn, the feeling that something is stuck behind my breastbone and most of all the chest pains.  My wonderful husband took me to the ER last November because I thought I was having a heart attack.  Of course, ER doc diagnosed something entirely different.  Didn't find out I had GERD until I went for followup with my dr and after running tests found out I have the GERD.  After GI doc did endoscopy we found out that the LES stays open all the time and does not close at all.  Sorry, this has been so long winded.  Any suggestions or comments??  Thanks.

Hi everyone...just a thought here?  Sometimes I get very spacy after eating. I think that I am alergic (allergic) to some foods and I am trying to track them down.

After lots of experimentation, I have found several things that I cannot eat.  Vit C and lemons, especially lemon oil, in any form causes migranes (migraines).(for 3 days)

Could you be dealing with a food allergy? At lot of times we crave foods that cause us allergic reations.

About 3 years agao I thought that I was going to die.  I started losing weight and could not eat much and was not digesting my food.  I went to a heath-type dr.  He put me on digestive enzymes & etc.  It helped a lot, but I was still sick.

I did find that I could tolerate garbonzo beans easily.  I ate them smashed with miricle whip on bread, in broth, and etc.  I used to hate them, but I learned to love them becasue they were easy on my system.

Anyway, I took one of my kids to the dr with a terrible cold. The dr put him on amoxil (anitibiotics).  I was starting to get a cold, too, so I asked him for some.  Within 3 days of taking then, I felt like a new person.  I still don't know what had been going on with me, but after that I was ok and on the road to mend.

I don't like anitbiotics and seldom use them, but sometimes, they have their place.  I know that dr. don't routinely use them unless they know what is going on, but I wonder...????  if they might help?

It's a small world.  Seems like getting dizzy after meals is a lot more prevalent than I thought. Are we destined to suffer in silence? NO.........
Start making a record of everything that you eat and when you eat it and what kind of reaction you have from it.  Since all the findings are that you are normal, then you have to find the abnormal, and the commom factor is the stuff you put in your gut

Hi All, I'm having similar symptoms of burning sensation, abd pain, dizziness after being diagnosed with gerd/acid reflux since Jan 02. I took Nexium for abt 6 months and stopped now. While it worked well for the first 3 months, the burning sensation, nausea, weakness, dizziness etc came back severely. It took about 4 weeks for it to subside. After I stopped Nexium, my dizziness reduced but still have acid indigestion, burning sensation , abdominal pain in my stomach. I'm currently taking antacids as and when needed. Some days are good and others are bad. I'm not myself aymore. I was treated for H Pylori bacteria earlier this year. I had ultrasounds, cat scan, enodscopy done..everything came back normal. I still feel weak, fatigued, dizzy at times. I'm not sure what the solution for this is. I'm doing all I can. Any suggestions???
