inflamation need help

im 22, almost 23 years old and i started having stomach problems when i was 18. Symptoms included: Frequent and severe heartburn, severe stomach cramps, intense nausea, but never any vomiting. this was usally about 5-6 hours after eating. i lost alot of weight due to this because i was scared to eat anything. So i went to the doctor when i was 18 and they ran some test included was an upper gi, and some blood work. The upper gi showed some imflamtion in the stomach. One doctor told me i had IBS, but i didn't suffer from diarhea or constapation. Well since i changed my diet i dont have the heartburn, but stomach cramping is still present and when i eat any dairy i get bad cramps and feel nauseated, (im pretty sure im lactose intollerent) spicey things, even remoteley spicey give me bad heartburn and make me feel sick to my stomach. Even breath mints give me heartburn and cramp my stomach up. And any type of nuts make me feel incredibly sick. Broccoli is another one that cramps me up and makes me feel like im gonna throw up.
I quit eating these things along time ago,and went to the doctor last year some time and they did an upper gi and an endoscopy and said that i had inflammation. so i've had stomach imflammation for almost five years, is that bad? how do doctors get rid of this? can they? they told me it was probabaly caused by worriyng to much, but i dont, im a pretty mellow fellow. I feel like they're writing me off and it sucks. anyone have any idea what could be wrong with me?

Dear Thadius,

I agree 100% with the good advice the others have given you. I'm going to post some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS, to give you some food for thought.

In these "tips" are lots of ideas about various things that can cause digestive disturbances of many kinds. So, these "tips" are not only about reflux, but about SOME (not all) other problems as well.

Check the "tips" out with a good doc, to be sure they are safe for you to consider trying. I didn't invent these "tips". I found them (and use them) from doctors, naturopaths, other patients, books, and websites. It took months to put these "tips" together, and it will take you time to "digest" them. :-)

I hope you feel better soon! :-)

Some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS (without acid blockers):

GER=Gastro-Esophageal Reflux. (Gastro=stomach. Esophagus=food tube.)

LPR= Laryngeal-Pharyngeal Reflux. (Larynx=voice box, containing the 2 vocal cords. Pharynx=throat, above the larynx. The larynx is above the trachea/windpipe.)

Reflux=acidic or alkaline stomach material that backs up into the esophagus (food tube), causing any of these problems: VCD/Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Laryngospasm attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc.

SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. Murray, N.D. See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com   and, also see GER/LPR info on page 5, and on LINKS page.

PLEASE READ THIS GREAT BOOK. It may possibly be bought on-line, from Michael T. Murray

Hi there-

First off, the inflammation is called, "Gastritis". If you read through this board, there are many here that are suffering from this as well. I've had gastritis now for two years. I was also treated for H-Pylori which was found during the endoscopy. H-Pylori causes gastritis and so does exssesive stomach acid. Reflux, heartburn, etc, etc. From what I have read, some people have had gastritis for years. Are you taking any antacids, ppi's? (nexium, prilosec, etc, etc)It took me a LONG time before I finally was prescribed one that worked, and that was protonix. Usually the doctor will put you on one of these meds and will keep you on it as a treatment to try to heal the inflammation for weeks. (4-8)Also, diet. If you smoke, drink alcohol, coffee, or eat acidic foods, (tomatoes, red sauces, pizza, etc, etc) it will "Never" get better. Alcohol and smoking totally intensify the inflammation and will make it WORSE. Try really hard to change your lifestyle. It's the only thing that will help you. As for the doctors brushing you off, I know how you feel, but with gastritis, there really isn't any other way to treat it. It's a generalized inflammation that is being caused by H-Pylori (were you checked for this) reflux (exssesive acid) or too many things that are offending the stomach, like alcohol and smoking. Read up on gastritis. Once you understand "Exactly" what is wrong with you, you will be able to cure and help yourself, but you must understand it first and you MUST figure out what is causing your tummy to get P***** off. Something is. Also, if your current GI has no bedside manner, perhaps you should seek out another.

Good luck-
Jenn

First off thanks to everyone that replied.

What test do they run to find out what kind of bacteria you have in your stomach?  Should i ask about being tested for anemia? Does anemia cause any of these symptoms?

MEN can have yeast infections.  My husband has had a few, his were caused by taking tetracycline, but there are other causes, too, so you might want to reconsider earlier advice.

There is a simple blood test to check for lactose intollerence which would let you know for sure.

i would suggest you find out what bugs you have in your gut. Undesirable bacteria /yeast can cause similar symptoms
