liver mass ??

I have just been thru a CT scan and MRI for them to find a probable fibronodular hyperplasia on the right lobe of my liver. It is appx 3.7 x 3.4cm insize I am 42yr old female.Anyone know anything about this?? I am not finding anything on the net.

About a year ago, I had a mass(4-5cm) on my right liver lobe. It was near the dome of the liver in the back. It had been diagnosed as a result of urq(upper right quadrant) pain. I went through blood work, ct scans, ultrasounds, tagged red blood cell test, a failed liver biopsy & finally two mris. I did a lot of research in medical journals. Apparently, it was a benign hepatic adenoma most likely caused by birth control pill usage. The main risk with these type of tumors is rupture, and since the liver filters a gallon of blood a minute, the risk could be dangerous. I found a wonderful doctor in Dallas who treated my adenoma laparascopically with thermal ablation. It was day surgery. He got all of the tumor. I said all that to say- don't stop until you are happy with the diagnosis & results. I don't know what kind of tumor you have, but there is not a lot of info on tumors related to bc pill use. Just thought you might like to know.

I am glad to see that I am not alone and just as unaware or confused.  My mass was found last year by my gynecologist.  My mass is located on the lower right lobe and my symptoms are very similar to Huffy2002, sharp shooting pain and discomfort just below the rib cage and in my lower back.  Sometimes there is pain in the lower left and right side of my stomach, but the pain is not always constant and I sometimes go through periods of loss of appetite. I also used to think that the pain was associated with eating, but as I listened to my body more, I found that I would still have the pain when I have gone a week or two without eating because of a loss of appetite.  I have had two CT scans and a sonagram in the last year and just this week had an MRI, and I do not know what my doctor will hope to find that he does not already know from the CT scan.

I would like to know more about thermal ablation.  What type of procedure is it and are the symptoms gone after the procedure?

hi  i hope your liver biospy went ok. I have had two done.  Your symptons sound so much like what i have had it is unreal.  It took two years and many test from scans MRI's and biospy"s to get answers.  i had two large focal nodular hyperplasias in the liver one of which was compressing a main artery.  I had surgery to remove them by a surgon in Montreal , Canada.  He removed the gallbladder and took half of the liver which allowd him to remove the tumor that was a problem.  I still have one there that can not be removed but it is no danger to my health.  I still have pain daily but it is a gteat relief to know what it is .  I hope all goes well for you. I too would like to know about thermal ablation.  Kknewman are you out there?  A failed liver biopsy simply means a non conclusive result. A CT scan is painless, but does require that a thick drink be consumed just before the test.

Today is the day for my biopsy. I have to be there in a couple of hours. With all mentioned here and what I have found online I am hopeful of the best.I am still having a good bit of pain and discomfort in the area just below the ribs not always on the right side sometimes on the left as well and into my back on the right side. The pain comes and goes, I have not been able to attribute it to anything in particular. I am sitting here now having nothing to eat or drink since early last evening and have it So not always something associated with a meal. I will check into the sites mentioned about liver cleansing later

I was interested to read of KKnewmans surgery for adenoma in Dallas through thermal ablation. I have an haemangioma (possibly due to high level exposure to methylene chloride) as have had pain in liver emanating from this region ever since. Well at least it seems like I'm travelling down the same road....  I was wondering kknewman:  what do you mean "failed liver biopsy"?  I am due to have one next Wed and assumed that finally I would have a definite diagnosis to what the mass is. Also - I feel knowing may not be better - but curiosity being what it is..........is there any real pain/discomfort with the CT-guided biopsy?  My Dr. says "no" but then tells me that I will have Versed so won't remember anyway.  I can't imagine why I need Versed if there is no pain.

On a general blood test my Dr. found a high liver enzyme level on two separate blood tests.  I went for a sonagram which was inconclusive and showed two liver masses.  Then a CT scan, also inconclusive, but showed I have 5 liver leasions two of which are rather large and in different parts of my liver. I then went for a tag red cell study which showed that I did not have hemangiomas, but still inconclusive.  I then went through the MRI, inconclusive as well.  Now I underwent a biopsy yesterday and my preliminary results are that the lesions are benign, but are synal-theodal dilatation with reactive change.  I don't know what that is and the spelling is incorrect.  I will now go for more blood testing and another scan.  Any suggestions?

I just read your comments and I'm FINALLY glad to find some others who have the same symptoms that I do.  I am a 53-yr old female who has been going through lots of testing lately.  My original symptoms were nausea and severe pain on the right side just under the ribs about a month ago about a half hour after eating. After it happened a second time in less than a week, I went to the Dr. who immediately sent me for an ultrasound to rule out gall bladder problems.  The ultrasound came back fine for the gall bladder but showed a mass on the right lobe of the liver about 3cmx3cm.  I have since had a CT scan which confirmed the mass.  I also have had blood work to test for the liver cancer tumour marker(neg) and a red cell-tagged CT scan to test for a hemangioma (also neg).  At this point, I am scheduled for a CT-guided liver biopsy on the 22nd.  I am a little apprehensive about that, but I just want to know what this thing in me is!!

Thank your for responding. I had been ordered for the CT scn due to abdominall pain.  I have had the ph testing and all that 1 year ago. I had been on Prilosec for a little over a year switched to Nexium about 3 months ago. What a surprise when I complained of abdominal pain I was sent for a CT scan and they found a mass on my liver. They are thinking it is a focal nodular hyperplasia and have scheduled me for a biopsy the 20th of May to make certain. If you know anything about this please let me know as I am clueless. This is a real shock for me.

there seems to be some info. From what I read, in your case there is not much to worry about, those things are usually benign. Interestingly, my symptoms about a year and a half ago, were severe burning and abdominal discomport and pain. The provacid (similar to prolisec) did not seem to be working, so I stopped taking it and started watching very carefully what I eat. Eventually, I started feeling better, so the docs decided that it was all in my head. About a month ago, I realized that when my husband built the garden for my fruits and veggies two years ago, he used the arsenic treated wood, lots of it. I read about the arsenic poisoning and realized that I might've had that. I did get a lot of brown spots on my skin at that time. As you can imagine, once I told my theory to the docs, they concluded that I was completely crazy. So, I am trying to look into what I can find out on my own, but meanwhile will have to see if my mass (which is more like a "pool of blood" as they call it) is cancerous or not. Let me know how your byopsy went.

Thank you for the site information. The doc doesnt seem to be real concerned about this being a cancer but he is in favor of the further tests to make sure. I will let you know meanwhile keep me posted on yourself too

hi, saw your note while searching for some info myself. i have an indeterminate mass also in the right lobe 3.6 x 3.8 x 2.4. It was found about a year ago (ultrasound and CT scan was also done), i ended up not doing anything about it. A few days ago, I went for a follow-up, and they found that it grew a few millimeters in the last year. I am going to see a specialist a month from now. I am sure he's going to suggest a byopsy at the very least. Let me know how your's is doing. Are you having any symptoms?
