sulfite related dumping?

Posted By Shelba on July 10, 1998 at 15:06:15:

I am a generally healthy 60 year old female who has noted an
increasing intolerance to sulfites in foods over the past few years.
I have cramping and rumbling immediately after eating these
products, followed by sudden and difficult to control diarrhea.
The diarrhea may consist of 1 or 2 watery stools or may last for
an hour or more. While I can usually avoid the offending foods,
I have an upcoming trip and am concerned about eating in restaurants
and then developing the diarrhea while on the road. I realize
this probably constitutes a dumping syndrome of sorts but is
there anything that will help prophylactically or can stop or decrease
the symptoms once they have started? I have even begun to respond
to the small amounts in store bought breads! And I am fairly certain
that sulfites are the offending substance.
