upper right quadrant pain

I have had reoccuring pain right below my rib cage in two places on the right side. It was hurting so badly that I went to the dr. and he sent me for an ultrasound to check for gallstones. It came back negative. The dr. didn't appear to know what to do next and sent me to a surgeon who then said he believed it was my gallbladder and sent me for a catscan, a chest x-ray (to rule out rib fractures) and a hida-scan. All came back negative. (gallbladder working at 43% according to hida-scan). I have had blood tests, also. The pain seems to occur when "it wants to". I can't pin it down to eating habits, although I can seem to feel it more when I drink coffee. It is mostly a dull, throbbing pain, although it is accentuated as a sharp pain when I yawn or breathe deeply, quickly. The pain seems to go through to my back.
It's been hurting for a month and I have felt tired and listless the entire time. My eyes feel constantly droopy.  The pain hurts in two definite places about 3 inches from each other. I can touch the places and they feel very tender, almost bruised-like inside. Now the surgeon has said he thinks maybe it's fat deposits and to lose weight. (I am 5'4" 215 pounds) I was exercising for 5 weeks, showing improvement when the pain started. I am thinking of going to a gastroenterologist for a second opinion. I haven't been able to do my job because of the pain and accompanied nausea. Any thoughts on this? Thank you.

i would do just that, and i am suprised your doctor did not send you to a gastro/digestive specialest in the first place .you could have a ulcer because mine gives me  such pain it bends me over sometimes. or it couold be something more serious ask the gastro doctor when you go if he can do a upper scope and if he thinks a colonoscopy is right for you .good luck

Your hida scan showed your gallbladder function at just 43%, and that was considered a NEGATIVE test result? Hmmm, interesting logic. Anyway, I'm no doctor, but I wouldn't think fat deposits should cause pain. Sounds like it could be any number of things in either the stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, or liver. Actually the first thing that came to my mind was the possibility of a duodenal ulcer, based on your symptoms and the location of the pain. I would see a gastroenterologist - that's your best bet. It's probably and hopefully nothing serious.
