A fire swatter is a common effective tool for fighting brush fires. They are a large flexible "swatter" attached to a broom handle and cost about sixty dollars U.D. circa 2010. It's kind of an unusual firefighting tool and most civilians have never heard of them. An alternative is a heavy large straw household broom, especially if soaked in water. Swatters are very handy to have on your property if you are surrounded by fields of brush. Yes you use them by "swatting" at the flames, bringing the flat portion down hard on the edge of the fire.
