Sleep problem?

by debaser23, Apr 10, 2007 12:00AM
I really have no idea where to put this, as there doesn't seem to be a forum for it.  Recently I bought one of these little digital audio recorders.  Girls used to tell me I talked in my sleep so I thought I'd set it to "voice activated" and let it record me last night.  I heard no talking, but there was 17 minutes of snoring.  The snoring was very odd sounding, too...it was almost as if I was hyperventilating at times.  As far as I know, I don't have any trouble sleeping but this struck me as unusual and I'm wondering if there's some kind of problem.  The only med I'm currently on is Clonazepam .5mg bid.  I do smoke and am a 30 year-old male.  I could not tell when the snoring occurred but I tend to believe that it was around 6am.  I set the voice activation sensitivity high enough to capture the sound of me moving around in bed, and it appears I was very sedentary all night.  Not sure if that makes a difference.  Some of the snoring was high-pitched, too, and I know the recorder was functioning properly because it captured the sounds of cars passing and stuff.  They were the correct pitch.  Anyway, thanks in advance if this gets answered.

Well, I discussed this with my Dr. as I happened to have an appointment today, anyway.  He didn't seem to think it was a big deal.

There was this sound (forgive me for being crude) that was like I was hocking up some phlegm.  This happened in the middle of the weird, rapid snoring.  The rapid snoring went on for minute after minute after minute, so I'm not sure if I was trying to breathe to make up for stopping breathing.  Not sure.

This thing has 17 hours of memory on board, so I'm just going to record myself all night long tonight without the voice activation on.  Maybe if I put it closer to my head I can tell if I ever stop breathing.

Thanks for your answer.

It's reassuring your doctor thought it was ok.

I guess if it's voice activated it's hard to tell if you've stopped breathing, but you should still be able to catch the recovery symptoms, making up for stopping breathing.  If it was for minutes after minutes without change it doesn't sound like recovery symptoms because those would gradually slow.

Thanks.

Yeah, I recorded myself all night last night with the voice activation off.  I snored more, and it was almost all "normal" snoring.

Now I just have to find a way to stop snoring all together!

Thanks again for your answers, Doctor.
