Recently, a small appliance called a "water-mill" has appeared on the market. Basically this is a glorified dehumidier. Plug it in and you get a few gallons of purified water out of the air every day.
Pure water is often difficult to come by. In New Orleans, there was at times a shortage of bottled water while dehumidifiers sat idle in a nearby Home Depot. You don't require a "water mill". An ordinary dehumidifier will do the job.
An ordinary home dehumidifier will draw water out of the air that can be used for drinking. The problem is, this water may be contaminated with mold, dust or bacterial matter and should be decontaminated before using by boiling and ideally filtered through one of the various inexpensive water purification systems.
