The broth did the trick! Thanks to all who helped me! I did away with the hampster bottle! I bought my grandson a hampster, so it was put to good use! lol Thanks again! You guys are the BESTEST!
Had to laugh about the hamster bottle. I had a water bottle in one of my bulldog's crates so she could drink whenever she wanted. Well, she decided that she didn't want to drink out of the 'community' bowl in the kitchen any more. She would dig & bark at her crate door when she was loose so she could get in and drink from the bottle!
Oh no I think she'll be fine drinking from a bowl. Though the hamster-drinker sounds like fun! (but bet she didn't see it that way. She said "What do you think I am? A hamster or something?" )
Cats have pretty flat faces sometimes but they are OK drinking from a bowl.
Thank you so much for your advice, and I will be trying that broth solution straight away! Her urine is normal and she exhibits no symptoms of anything being wrong. I thought since she had a flat face she might not do well drinking from a bowl, so (yes I really did it), got her a hampster bottle type thingee! lol Hey I was desparate! So that didnt go over well either, but I am sure like you said she will gobble the broth. I thank you again!
Sometimes she would get so bad I was reduced to pouring water from a large spoon onto my hand where she would lap up about 4 spoonfuls at a time if I was lucky, then turn away and look at it slightly disgustedly. I had to try and get this down her about every hour if I could. It was hard work!
I was getting so concerned about these 'phases' she went through occasionally. I spoke to the vet about it. He said, as all her blood values were perfectly healthy, and her urine was normal, and that she was showing no signs at all of dehydration, that I had nothing to worry about, and to carry on doing what I was doing till she 'snapped out' of it. By the way he had no clue as to the cause!
And she always does snap out of one of those phases. And she is perfectly well. And this has been going on for as long as I've known her.
I think you should make sure you do get fluids down your dog, one way or another. Try any or all of the methods I did (you can leave out the milk if you prefer. I only let mine have milk as a desperate last resort!)
By far the best way to get fluids down a dog is to boil some chicken or fish, and serve it up like a soup. I can guarantee it will all go down, including the liquid.
It doesn't sound quite normal to only pee twice a day. But if her liquid intake is very slight, I suppose that figures. Increase her fluid intake and she will pee more I think.
Does her belly seem swollen at all? Does her urine have a very strong unpleasant smell?
If so, I would see the vet, otherwise, just try to get her to take on more liquids.
