Yes Shannon you are right...they did some special blood work and her liver is definitely the issue. She is on a special diet and some new medication however she is now having a hard time walking. I hate to put her down because her mind is still connecting with me...however she is having major issues keeping herself up on her paws and she is urinating and defecating without standing up. One day I think this is it, and the next day she is a little better. This is a hard decision to make!
Yea, if your dog has never had seizures before and they are occuring around the time the liver is not functioning well, they are most likely related.
HI Shannon,
My vet was on a vaca day and has a another vet for Wed. I am not fond of her, however she said it looks to her like the liver is failing. I asked about the seizure and she said she couldn't tell me if there related.
I am waiting for my vet to call me this morning, after he reads the report, so I can get his opinion...thank you
What did your vet say? It would be helpful to know what the rest of her blood work looked like. Do you have a copy of the specific values? Liver enzymes being elevated can be from a number of things..Do you notice any behavior changes after your dog eats? If the liver is failing, high ammonia levels can cause depression, head pressing, dull mentation, and seizures, especially right after a meal. If BUN, albumin, glucose, and cholesterol are all low and certain liver enzymes are high, it indicates liver failure +/- an acquired shunt. This is just a guess without seeing the numbers.
