18 Month bichon frise - cancer?? Sadly, Yes it was

I am sorry to say that it was cancer - lymphoma dn had spread through her entire body.  The weight which I just could not understand, was in fact fluid. My dog was seen 12 times in the past 6 months by vets and in the last 2 weeks by a soft tissue specialist and a bone specialist, tests galor all of which came back as Ok until yesterday when she was seen by yet another specialist who after 3 hours diagnosed cancer. I had her put to sleep becuawe she was in agony and he said all he could do was try to make her comfortable etc.  I am so sad and I feel angry that they didn't pick this up.  My friend says they would never have looked for cancer in such a young dog, but I just don't know.  Thank you all so much for you kind response,
Sheila

I am so so sorry for your loss.  Try not to be angry, it is true that cancer at such a young age is rare and many vets would not have suspected that.  My 3 year old lab went through "tests galore" last year as well with many specialists who could not figure out that it was cancer until it was too late, either.  I made the same decision.  You will come to peace with it soon, and in the meantime, know that the reason you had her for such a short time was to make that short time so wonderful.
