2.5 month old retriever died suddenly

my golden retriever just 2 and a half month old died a few days back. was ok in the morning, had his breakfast but then seemed a bit off around 10 am. he came into my room.. wailed twice and then collapsed. we took him to a hospital, but on the way he took a couple of deep breaths and suddenly died. no heart beat. he was a little obese, or atleast it seemed so and he also had eaten a lot of chicken (high cholestrol) just the previous day. after asking questions about poison, etc. to which the answer i think is no, doctor could not say what reason he died of, but said that it was most probably a heart attack. could there be any other explaination?? does the way he died concurr with a heart attack??

You poor thing. It is very sad to lose your dog, at any age, but I am so sorry to hear your little pup died so suddenly like this.

I cannot say what could have caused his death. Roast chicken, or chicken with seasoning, eg: salt/pepper/garlic or onion stuffing etc (table-scraps) would be very rich and fatty for his system to digest. Especially at his young age. And onions and garlic are toxic for dogs. Although the breast-meat of even a roast chicken isn't too bad. As long as there isn't too much skin and fat. But boiled plain-cooked chicken is just fine for dogs usually. It's very good for them. I give mine boiled chicken quite often, mixed with her dry food.

If he showed no prior symptoms to this sudden 'attack' -(loss of appetite, listlessness, etc) which doesn't sound like it, as you said he ate his breakfast only a short time before this happened -then it could well have been a heart attack.
There is no way to tell for sure what caused his death, unless you have firm evidence that he got into something toxic, without having a Necropsy performed.

I am sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you.
