Thank you for asking. I am sorry to say that my sweet Bitsy passed away Sunday nite around 10:30pm.  She is missed.  And things at my house will be sad for a long time.

How is she doing now?

I would definitely get a recheck of the blood work, because elevated sugar & drinking more then normal could be signs of diabetes. Hopefully it was just a fluke, and she is all better now!

What?????  H/D is for Heart Disease Patients! Why did your Vet give her that???? I think her "Violent Reaction" was probably due to the food!!!   Just Curious, Karla

Margot ..I am so sorry to be confusing ...I was trying to be brief and in doing so I just got confusing.  So ...first ...I took her to the vet in the first place because I thought she was drinking a wee bit too much water.  Or at least more than she normally had in the past.  A blood test showed her sugar to be 'slightly' elevated.  Being that she is overweight and had eaten before going to the vet (my husband forgot she was going that day) I wasn't all that surprised and neither was he.  He gave me the clavamox because he said with elevated sugar dogs often will also have a UTI ...but he never actually tested her for the UTI ...and I dropped the ball in the office because I didn't quite understand that he hadn't confirmed the UTI before I left the office.  I followed his instructions with regard to the clavamox and putting her on h/d (which she initially liked ok) until she got sick. I did call him immediately when she vomited the first time and he told me to continue on the same course.  When she kept getting worse I questioned that I had the right vet.
As of today and a new vet visit ...she is eating 3 meals of baby food a day(chicken, rice, & peas) and is looking and acting much better.  She's taking probiotics and a nutrient supplement and things are looking up.  The 'new' vet thinks that her violent reaction was due to an allergy to the clavamox.  And that she shows no sign of any infection needing the clavamox anyway.  She's lost 2lbs.  Which as you know for a little dog is alot.  However, she was overweight.  She now weighs 9.3lbs which is a good weight for her size, so after we get her digestive issues handled we will revisit the sugar issue, if it is an issue.
Thank you so very much for your concern and willingness to hep me remain calm in my moment of panic!

I am confused.  I thought you said she had a UTI.  You should have called the Vet about the vomiting and he may have changed antibiotics or added Pepcid or something for the nausea.
Encouraging that she is eating. You can add some rice to the chicken and I would feed a few small meals rather than one or two large ones.
Keep us posted.

No she started vomiting after the first pill. She has never run any fever, tail is up, etc. No swelling or odd breathing, gum color is good. She's drinking plenty of water.  The thing is she never had a UTI ...and she did eat some boiled chicken last night and kept it down.  I have contacted a new vet ...so we'll see.  Thanks for all your advice.

I agree with Margot, you need to get in touch with the vet in the morning.  It's unusual for them to tolerate an entire course of meds and THEN get nauseous from them, there either may be something else going on here or the UTI is more serious than initially thought and she is going to need something stronger to get rid of it.

Please don't delay in calling, though, because chis are so tiny, if she vomits much more she is in danger of dehydrating, so you want to make sure you don't run into problems from THAT next.

Please post back and let us know how she is.

She only started vomiting after the meds were finished?  It is not unusual for this med to cause vomiting and/or diarrhea so it is usually given with food.
Does she have a fever or is she lethargic?  Any swelling or odd breathing?  I would withhold food but try to make sure she is drinking fluids.  Not sure what time it is there now, but I would give your Vet a call in the morning.  She just may need some type of probiotic or something to settle her stomach.  The Vet may want to do a recheck on that UTI.
