Administering eye medication

Hello all.....
My 8 yr. old Border Collie just had eye surgery and I need to apply an ointment - for pain- as well as some drops, an antibiotic, in his eye three times a day. I have to muzzle him to keep him from nipping at me, and he does all he can to break away from me. Nicholas is very strong and I only have use of one arm. I live alone so trying to hold him still is impossible. Does anyone have any idea on how I can put this medicine in his eye? Thanks in advance....

Do you have a neighbor willing to help restrain him while you administer his meds?  All I can think of is to use a leash and tie him to something stable with a very short lead - kind of like how groomers wash dogs.  Have you ever seen a groomer at work?  They use a very short leash and attach it above the dog's head so that his head stays in the same spot.  Control the head and you control the dog.

You should probably call your vet for restraining advice so you don't accidentally do something that might injure him.

Thanks for responding to my dilemma ! One of my neighbors said that they would be able to help for one of his doses, but he wouldn't be home for the other 5. The groomers' lead/leash idea was a good one yet wouldn't be applicable in this case due to the one arm/hand situation. I did speak with his vet and he will be able to prescribe an oral dose of antibiotic, but, the pain med will still have to be applied into his eye. He has been handling the pain so well, putting his head on my lap with his eye face down, allowing me to rub his temple all the while. Again, thanks for your input, I truly appreciate it...
