Any good upset stomach recipe for a husky with a nervous stomach?

My husky just got a treament for the microphagia  that may still be in his system.  He has a very nervous stomach and he has diarreah (diarrhea) :(....    The vet suggested chicken and rice for a week.

Anyway.... does anyone have a method for serving chicken and rice to their dog?  Should it be soupy or like a casserole?  Would you add garlic?

Hi.  Yes, I have served the chicken and rice meal many times to my Max.  He is spoiled so he gets organic chicken tenders that is poached in boiling water.  I shred the chicken and mix it about 50/50 with the rice.  (The rice should be white rice as it is easier for dogs to digest.)  The mixture comes out like a casserole with no sauce in it.  With an upset stomach, I would not recommend using garlic or any other seasoning.
At the first meal, I start him on small amounts of the mixture over the course of an hour or two so that it does not overwhelm his stomach.  After that, if he is doing well, he gets a bowl of it.  At the end of the week, I gradually reintroduce his regular kibble by adding it into the chicken and rice mixture in phases until he is back on the kibble.
Hope this helps you and that your sweet husky is feeling better soon!

I would make the consistency what the dog can tolerate, thicken like canned dog food if dog can tolerate, or soupy if dog needed....I don't think dogs enjoy garlic...
A little pepto bismal right before eating...and the rice water is a very good source or healing....
Boil chicken livers and blend in too....w/some cottage cheese...also good for sensitive tummys...

I've had Siberian huskies for years and I still can't figure them out  = )

When any of our dogs has to eat easily digestible food, we give them canned food called A/D which is, I think, a Hills product.  One of the benefits of A/D is that if a cat or dog can't or won't drink, the food contains enough liquid to keep them hydrated.

If your husky just needs it for a specific time, till his nervous stomach clears up, personally, I would give him A/D (I don't mean to sound like a commercial).  If you prefer to stick to what your vet said, we usually use lamb and rice although chicken is relatively easy to digest.  We just cooked the chicken - no bones or skin - cooked the rice in chicken broth and gave it to the dog.  There were times when I was tempted to eat it myself.

I hope your boy is feeling better soon.

You can also use lean ground beef or ground turkey with the rice. This is what my vet also told me when my baby had an infection and was weak with an upset tummy.
Very plain, bland foods. Natural yogurt with little to no sugar is good too.....has all those cultures in it that are good for the digestive/immune system. I sometimes make yogurt "ice cubes" for mine, just mix a bit of water w/ it and put in cube tray. And very wet foods will probably make his diarrhea worse. Just keep him well hydrated with water or ice cubes if he likes, (mine love them, especially if I make them "treat cubes" w/ their favorite treats frozen in there) as diarrhea dehydrates them quickly. And just the plain chicken....no skin, as that is too fatty and upsets the belly more, which = more wet poo.

Take care and hope your baby feels better soon ; )

hi i have a weimeraner with the most nervous stomach in the history of nervous stomachs have tried her on loads of different brands that suit for a few months then upset her again. anyway she has just had yet another course of anti biotics while she was on them i fed her boiled rice and chicken and scrambled eggs all i did with the chicken is boil it, i split 2 chicken breasts into 3 meals  (the vet said feed little and often) now she is "cured" i am feeding her on frozen meats and vitalin to bulk it up and touch wood she has been fine, the frozen meats aren`t expensive and all you do with them is either microwave or boil for a few minutes, they do all different meats but i have stuck to chicken, tripe and fish, the tripe and fish stink to high heaven lol but she seems to be a lot happier.
hope your dog is feeling better
