Baytril used to treat stomach upset

Thursday my female 10 lb. 2 year old Japanes chin was lethargic and not eating.  She was givin Reglan and Pepcid at the clinic. Friday still lethargic not eating and had a fever.  Friday she had blood work and xrays.  Everything was normal except slightly anemic.  Also a questionable gas pattern and a dark area in the stomach on xray.  was given fluids, baytril injection, and ampicillan injection.  Went home with bayrtil prescribed once a day and probiotic, still on pepcid. Ate that night and kept it down.  Next morning seemed better and ate bland diet with meds.  Within 30 mins, vomitted and acting lethargic again.  Was given cerenia shot and sent home.  Feeling better, bt not 100%.  I still did not give her the Baytril.  I am worried that's what made her vomit?  Should I try to give it to her again?  When should I be concerned if she has not fully recovered?

Yep, I have gone w/ my gut instinct many times, and saved my dogs lives...
But, do read up on the meds or your symtoms....

Thank you for your advice.  I decided on my own not to give her the Baytril and she is recovering and doing much better.  Sometimes you have to go with your gut on these things and know your dog.

Baytril is an anti biotic for skin and some urinary infections. Odd for your dogs symptoms.

It is very strong. And actually made my dogs UTI much worse. Had to go to EM vet and was switched to Clavamox for the UTI.

Look up Baytril and it's side effects and bad reaction effects.

baytril can be hard on the tummy I would question this vet??? usually there are other meds to use for tummy issues. ask ?s and get another opinion from another vet.

There is a vet forum here that you can post this concern w/ Dr. Cheng....
I do not have experierce w/that meds...but am aware of gastric intestines on small dogs, I have to switch food to Nutro all naturals lamb/rice/oatmeal for small dogs with sensitive stomach...says that on the bag....so far, a lot better...they can get real sick w/those symtoms on gas pockets...good luck...
