Black LaBs eyes are rolling to the back of head and sunken

We woke up today to our lab who was completely healthy yesterday to watching him have a hard time controlling his eyes - they are rolling to the far back of his head - he is still wagging his tail and eating but they are getting worse by the hour - we took him to our vet and he said he has never seen anything like this in the 20 yrs of practice.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for your thoughts - clifford was doing poorly when we went to bed last night - couldn't open his eyes at all.  Had him sleep with us to keep an eye on him but no problems - he slept great.  Work up this morning and he is able to control his eye movement but the eyes are very bloodshot still.  I am watching him throughout the morning ready for an emergency vet visit if needed.  I hope all is good now and he is on his way to recovery.

Did your vet mention the possibility of vestibular disease...?
This disease can cause your dogs eyes to move back and forth, or up and down.  This disease will typically affect a dogs eyes, as well as the dogs sense of balance.  However, if the condition is mild, it may not affect his balance until the disease progresses...at which point, he will walk like a "drunken sailor"  Your dog may also experience head tilting, nausea, vomiting, stumbling, falling, circling, reluctance to stand...along with other symptoms.  This condition usually affects middle age dogs or older. It usually starts suddenly and progresses rapidly. This condition is usually easily treated.  To learn more about it, do a web search for Vestibular disease in dogs...and be sure to ask your vet about this possibility.
Best wishes ...

Sounds like he's had some sort of head injury.
Did the vet run any tests? Xrays? Blood work?
Very curious to know what it is.
Trying to think of things that would cause a human's eyes to do the same...spinal injury comes to mind...head injury, optical nerve damage, muscular dystrophy...so many things.

I hope it's nothing serious. Poor puppy.
