Bump on the back of my dogs neck

About 3 years ago My dog got a shot on the back of his neck, ever since then there has been a hard bump in that area. I took him to the vet and they said if it didn't bother him or anything don't worry about it. Now, it looks like a golf ball, still doesn't bother him or anyting, but it is big, it has kind of done this before but went then. It is kind of leaking/bleeding a little as well. why would a shot cause an irritation like this, and why is it so big:??

Mike, it may be nothing more than a Benign tumor.....Please, don't get upset, yet......Dogs get all kinds of growths that don't have to be malignant!

It does sound like your Vet is way overpriced!!!! You may need to think about that!

Check into Care Credit at CareCredit.com....It's a credit card specifically made for Human & ANIMAL medical bills.......Most Vets and ALL Surgery Centers accept it as a form of payment for expenses....You can apply online or your Vet will have the form to fill out.........It works like any credit card.....You pay the bill with it & then make monthly payments back to the card company.......The interest rate is unusually LOW for a credit card.....

My pug had one of these when she was a puppy. I had it removed when she was spayed, so they can be removed.  But the oozing sounds like an infection.  If that doesn't concern your vet I would seek a second opinion.

Thanks, it bothers me because years ago when I noticed it they said...no biggie, but I explained that it has been (at that time) about 9 months and was still there. It felt like you could lift it, but like there was a wire attached to it. I just had my other dog, who started losing weight and not eating, at the same vet, they said it was kidney failure, kept him for a week, charged me 1400$, then I asked to fax the bloodwork to columbus, ohio and it turned out to be addisons disease, which is now under contro with monthly medicine

I Just feel aweful because, as much as this dog me to my family, after the thousands on the other dog, if this is going to be in that same price range, I just can't do it. And I have read that, if it is Sarcoma, even afet removal, it will most lilely return plus radiation adn chemo. I am a wreck.

Hi MIke.......If you can raise it and move it around, then it CAN be removed........The leaking and bleeding has me concerned because of infection......If you can afford to have it removed, then I would do it.......They probably will want to biopsy the growth (Send it to a lab) for analysis....This does cost quite a bit ($100 here), and the option is yours.......Just want to let you know so, you won't be surprised......

Let me know what happens.....The fact that the growth moves around, is a good sign.........Take care, Karla

Thanks, it has raised up before, but not this bad and it does not seem to bother him when I touch it. It is not attached, for example, I can pick it up and move it around. I wil have him to the vet this week. I was just waiting for it to go down, or see if it did not get worse.

Hello Mike.....This sounds like a Sarcoma at the injection sight.......This is considered a Vaccine REACTION and should be treated as such......

First of all, your Vet should NOT have blown this off........The fact that you state there is Blood/leaking from this area means it now is a serious issue......

If your Vet will not listen to you, find another Vet......To my knowledge, these cannot be removed from the back.....Newer protocol for vaccines is in the leg (FOR THIS REASON)! Thus, they can be removed if a sarcoma develops.....

You need to have him evaluated ASAP......Also, DO NOT let him be vaccinated again!!!     Please, let me know what you find out......This could help others on the forum......Good luck, I'll be thinking about you both........Karla
