Even though peanuts are not toxic for dogs, feeding peanuts as one of the main sources of protein in a dog's diet is a bad idea! A lick or two of peanut butter now and again is fine as a treat or snack. Don't forget peanuts have a lot of oil in them. Too many fats in a dog's diet can cause obesity or pancreas inflammation.
However, dogs' teeth are not designed for fine grinding (as our back teeth are) and whole peanuts are likely to be swallowed in huge chunks. This causes constipation. My first dog was fed peanuts by someone at a party, and had the most terrible constipation afterwards.
Hi Nicole.....I've been wondering about you and your puppy.......
I have a question? Do you have access to any packaged dog food where you live? What I mean is, can you go buy dogfood (Of any kind) at a store in Malaysia????
If you can, list me some names (Of the foods), I'll try to look up the ingredients and choose which one would be best for your puppy to eat....This will help you make decisions about what your puppy can have.....
Let me know if I can help .......Karla
Well, dogs eat peanut butter so I assume they can have them in moderation. They can be high in phosphorus so I would not feed a lot of them. Dogs don't seem to have peanut allergy (or as frequently) as humans.
I do know they should never be fed macadamia nuts!!
err...mine is that type which people used them to cook soup...izzit alright?! =P
My dogs have had peanuts before and we have never had any issues with it. We have some friends who let their golden retriever snack on peanuts with them around the campfire. =)
