Chihuahua rash on stomach and under arm pits

Chihuahua rash on stomach and under arm pits

Prince recently had a few fleas (8 at the most) and we used a flea shampoo and then purchased prescription of Frontline and gave to him about two weeks ago and now suddenly he has a rash on his stomach that looks like small bites on him in a rash type reddish form.  He has then under his arm pits and they are staring in his growing area.  It just seem to be on his stomach area and not on his back.  Is there anything I can do to remedy this at home?

Sounds like a flea allergy, you must get some flea bombs and do the house as well .... if you see one flea there are thousands of others. And your dog will keep getting reinfected all the time.
See if Calamine lotion will work... if not its the Vet for cortaszone cream.

Hello & Welcom...."Is there anything I can do to remedy this at home?"

Yes there is.....First, Never use a Flea Shampoo & Topical Flea Product together...The combination can have serious side effects! That's way to much toxins for a dog to handle at one time...Especially a little guy like yours.

Did you rinse the shampoo out really, really, well? It may be shampoo residue on his tummy that's causing the reaction...Or the chemicals have dried out his skin. In the future, any liquid dish soap will kill fleas....They are not as harsh as a pesticide shampoo.

I'd bath him in a soap free shampoo to get the other shampoo off. Yes, Baby Bath or Baby Shampoo is fine...Both are soap free.....Rinse real good....Do not use a blow dryer to dry him...Just towel dry.

Seeana's right...There could be many fleas in your house.....You must Vacumn, Vacumn, Vacumn.....

If this is an allergic reaction, OTC Benedryl is safe to use...Try 1mg. per lb. every 8 hrs. and see if it helps....

Since this is only on his tummy, I'd also think about something that he's laying on that is causing it.....If you use Fabric Softener on his bedding, that's a possibility (ANd you need to stop).....Could be grass, dust, etc..  Give that some thought....

Again, Seeana's right...A cortizone cream may help, but you don't want him to lick it all off.....OTC Cortizone creams can be purchased at any grocery store or Pharmacy...

Good luck and let us know how he is......Karla
