My 9 year-old shih tzu was diagnosed with bladder stones.  Initially we thought he had a UTI but the next day he could not get any urine out and was obstructed.  Because I knew nothing about the issue, I authorized them to "push" the stones back into the bladder.  We tried Royal Canin to dissolve the stones but after 4 weeks they were back in the same place.  He is having surgery tomorrow, here in San Francisco.  The quote was $2,200.  I also had a heart workup done for him at another hospital, about $900.  When we're done, we'll be at about $4,000.  Hopefully the surgery resolves and we don't have this issue anymore.  I've had kidney stones and know how painful they are.  My dog is so happy and good natured...even through all of this.

Hello,
I saw your comment about your pet having stones and you had them removed in SE Georgia.  I am happy they are ok.

I live in Roswell and am looking for my pet to have the same surgery.  Can you recommend the dr/vet and their number?

You can email me at ***@**** or text me at 404-918-2583

Thank you,
Cindy

My  8 YR OLD Lab/Rottie mix was diagnosed with bladder stones on July 13th. I of course opted for the surgery which was $1500 plus $85 for special food. I was able to bring her home and give three prescriptions. Rimadayl, Simplifex, and a anti inflammatory. She was groggy and peed almost normal for 2 days and acted only a lil off. On day three all hell broke loose. My son called me and said there was blood all over the house. I rushed home to find she was peeing with blood almost constantly. It was VERY red so looked very bad. I rushed her to the vet. He said we have never seen this post op, he gave her Vitamin K, another antibiotic and wanted to test her blood for all kinds of things. When i went up front the bill was $758.... I almost fainted the girl talked to the doctor and he removed some of the tests....one of which was to see if she had a disease for dobermans (this dog had no markings of a Dobie).  The bill became $160. After improvement over the weekend and Monday no further issues, she started throwing up. They told me to cut the pain meds if she did this so no more. She didn't want to eat for a few days but Thursday she acted fairly normal in the morning...peeing and happy. While I was 3 hrs away at work again my son said she was puking and not well. I couldn't believe this. I got home late and she seemed to be drinking eating a little. Over the weekend she stopped wanting meds. It was a battle for one to get in. I got them in but it was not easy. On Monday I called the vet to explain she had stopped eating and drinking and didn't look good. I was given a 4PM appointment....she didn't make the day. I sit here warning you BE AWARE OF POST OP ISSUES. This was a 8 yr old dog who was my best friend and my baby....KNOW THE COMPLICATIONS THAT MAY ARISE,  ASK EVERYTHING AND BE SURE YOU ASK HOW MUCH BEFORE BLINDLY AGREEING.

THIS IS EXCEPTIONALLY DRAINING PAINFUL AND I AM CRYING AS I TYPE.  BE AWARE THIS IS NOT AN EASY PEASY SURGERY AS I WAS LED TO BELIEVE.

I wish I had read all these posts before I brought my dog to the vet. My bi hon has been suffering from bladder stones since 2013,  we tried the food and antibiotics several times. She continued to get urine infections. She would bleed. The cost for the surgery was $2000. But my dog doesn't tolerate pain very well and I was avoiding the surgery. I didn't want to put her through that pain. I didn't know what I was thinking . I thought I had to make to tough decision to put her down vs surgery. I had a new young vet who actually agreed with that decision vs the surgery. He said there was no guarantees. I ended up euthanizing her and I feel like I killed her. He vet never gave me any direction , I was indecisive and didn't know what to do. I regret my decision and hope that no one has to go through what I have just gone through. The loss is more painful then you can imagine and the guilt and anger I feel will never bring back my beautiful bichon. I am heartbroken.

My 12 lb. 8 year old pomeranian just had this surgery today. Cost was 1249.89   07/07/2015 in southern Wisconsin.  Thank goodness for care credit and 24 months no interest payments.
He is quite groggy tonight but they removed over a dozen stones. They used staples to close the incision.
