Digestive Problem

Digestive Problem

My dog is a 10 year old Jack Russell Terrier who spits up after eating.  He has had one epidose of Gastroenteritis about two years ago.  He was treated with pills and hasn't had another episode since.  He is on Senior "Nature's recipe" dogfood for digestive health but is still spitting up.

Does he spit it up immediately completely undigested, or does it spend some time in his stomach before coming back up?  Has he been doing this for a long time, a short time, or on and off?  It could be a lot of different causes depending on how the symptoms occur.  Even with special digestive food, he may not tolerate one of the ingredients.  Have you tried just white rice and drained cooked ground beef?  It sure sounds like something to see a vet about though, because at ten, he doesn't need any more stress on his body than necessary.  One thing I've learned about terriers over time is that many of them don't let on how sick they are.  They're bred for decreased pain sensitivity, tenacity, and general pig-headedness, and they'll go until they die.

I second that about terriers! I used to have a JR. They are tough little dogs! with, on average, a longer life-expectancy than many breeds.

Mine used to throw up his food about 5 minutes after eating only because I was giving it to him too cold! Straight from the refrigerator. I learned not to do that, and he was fine afterwards.

I decided to warm his food as I was also giving it to him from the refrigerator and also giving him about 1/3 c. Activia Yogurt before eating to coat his stomach and he hasn't spit up since.  He seems more perked up so we'll see how this works.

Thanks for your input.

Also,  to answer your questions.  He didn't spit it up right away.  It stayed in his stomach for awhile, maybe about an hour or so.  It has only been going on for about a week.  The plain yogurt seems to be helping.  I am keeping a good eye on him.

Wanted to let you know that I have also been giving my Jack Russell 1/2 ginger capsule in his food and that seems to be really helping also.  He hasn't had any episodes so far.  Am keeping my fingers crossed.
