Call around all the vets in your area.  You will be amazed at the differences in prices from one vet to another.  Be sure to ask about extra costs... pain killers, antibiotics, blood work - they can get sneaky about the extras so you've got to ask straight up.

I live in Canada and I paid 600 for cleaning on a Yorkshire. I found that alot but the anesthesia and antibiotics etc. adds up quick.

Hi Trish......My Lord, where do you live? $2000.00 (If I'm reading that right), is out of the question!  What tooth is it? Is this a quote from a Dental Specialist or a regular Vet?

What you DO want in a regular Vet is one that has a Dental Xray machine.....Not just regular xrays, or you are defeating your purpose....

Why a root canal? Why not just pull the tooth?

Yes, Anesthesia, Antibiotics, Painkillers are vital and add up, but I feel $500 is more than fair!  However, different areas of the country charge different prices.....That said; Do you have a VeterinaryTeaching Hospital (College) near you? If so, call them first and ask a price quote....Let us know what you find out.........Karla

it depends on what tooth it is and where you go. anesthetics and medications do add up. where i work something like that would cost around 400-600, once again depending on the tooth. just call around and make sure that you look at the hospital that your family pet will be going to. all animal hospitals are different, just be sure you trust who is doing it.

Anywhere from $400-$600 here in the US. Where on earth do you live that your vet is charging you $2000??? I'd tell that particular vet to get stuffed!

My 200lb English Mastiff developed an abcess (abscess), and a tooth had to be removed, and it was a difficult procedure as the tooth was hard to get at, and it still was in the $500 range (anesthetic, instruments and all).
