My dog definitely sweats under his front arms, his belly and his crotch area. He also has muscle twitching until he completely falls asleep. I've always thought he was so itchy that his muscles twitched. He's been treated for allergies/food sensitivities with antibiotics, prednisone and apoquel. Also tried the limited ingredient diet. He is on a good quality dog food and I've switched around to see if some is better than others. Sometimes his smell is better than others but right now I can bathe him and the next morning he smells bad again. I love this boy SO much and I don't care that he smells but he goes to my neighbors house during the day while I'm at work and they tell me just how smelly he is. Any ideas or similar experiences? Would love to know if someone had this and made it go away!
GIGI sweats at night also.. Her belly is damp to the touch when she wakes up in the morning and it's not pee. She sleeps in bed and I would know if she peed. It's strange.
I thought of the vomiting too, it could be that and he does spit up after gulping. He is also a big licker..mostly of me but I guess he could licking his bedding. He is wet to the touch, not dripping but moist .I change is bedding twice a week and air it out everyday. I even made sure he has pure wool too absorb any moisture. Since he is healthy otherwise and sweating seems not possible Iam going to keep an eye on him.Thank you all very much for your imput.Thxs
I've had several English bulldogs. One of them had an incontinence problem and would pee in her sleep frequently (not spay incontinence), but I agree the smell should give that away. Could he be licking his bedding to the point that its wet and then lying in it? Some dogs will obsessively lick padded surfaces.
Or possibly drinking water too fast and then vomiting it up on the bedding? I can't come up with anything else, maybe someone else will chime in.
i thought it was urine but not that smell. He can t lick his back so thats how i came to the sweating conclusion.I was unaware of sweating in dogs as well but what else could be. Like i said he is healthy . All my animals over the past thirty years have been rescues with all sorts of problems but this one stumped me.Frankie is new to our home as of three months ago.I ve researched problems with English Bulldogs but nothing.
I agree, it must be something other than "sweat" - is he "wetting" himself? That would smell enough to tell you if it is that.
How long have you owned the rescue? Some breeds have allergies and other problems that I had no idea of until we adopted a 8 yo Westie.
Good luck, we too struggle with getting control of problem sources but I know our rescue is happy to have a home.
I'm not sure what you mean by sweating, dog are not capable of sweating except through the pads of their feet. Are you sure he is not chewing/ licking on him self or possibly getting into something wet? Bulldogs can over heat very easily so make sure he has enough water available and that his bed or sleeping area aren't to warm.
