Dog that just had surgery is bleeding

My 7 yo Rottie just had surgery 4 days ago, The vet thought they saw a mass and wanted to go in to explore. (they found no mass but did find leasions on his liver) He has an 7 or 8 inch incision on his belly. When we picked him up he was slightly bleeding from the area and they vet said it was normal. They didnt say when it would stop bleeding. They also said not to wrap it up, which I thought was odd. But I went with it. So Day 2 the bleeding continued and seemed worse after he would get up and move around, I decided to wrap the incision back up so it would stop bleeding, I took it off at night so it could "breeth". The next day I wrapped him up again and the bleeding seemed to have stoped, but he was also not as active as the day before. Today I tried to go without the wrap but by the time the afternoon came around and he had gone outside to go to the bathroom he started bleeding again. So he got wraped up again. Then tonight he decided that he wanted to walk around the whole house and go outside, then the bleeding got really bad. I put a wrap around him and made it preaty tight and the bleeding stoped preaty fast.

What should I do, It seems like the stitches should be closer together (there are only 7 stitches about one every inch)
I guess I should keep the wrap on it since it seems to help. I am going to call the vet but I wanna make sure they give me the right answer.  Please help I just want to take care of him.
