Ear Cropping for Boxer

I have a boxer dog aged 5 months. Is it possible to get his ears cropped now?

And, if they got the dog from a reputable breeder, they would have been educated on doing this procedure.

I understand.  Hence my comment, "But I wouldn't do it anyway.  It causes pain to the dog, for no good reason."

I try to respond to people where they are.  The OP seems to be seriously considering having this procedure done, and obviously, the only reason to do it is for appearance's sake.  But it won't even work now.

I think you and I are on the same page, FWIW.  I don't happen to agree with ear-cropping, and I would not do it.  But if someone is going to do it, they need to know when it is too late for the desired outcome to be achieved.

Cropping is done for appearance, not necessity.  If I remember correctly, it is now banned in the UK.  Many breeders in the USA are not cropping ears and actually showing dogs with uncropped ears.
Whatever age, it is surgery and painful.
Cropped or not is now acceptable in the AKC Standard for the breed

It needs to be done when the puppy is between 8 and 12 weeks of age.  It's too late now.  The dog's ear cartilage is "set" by the age of five months.  It just won't work, at this point.

But I wouldn't do it anyway.  It causes pain to the dog, for no good reason.  Besides that, sometimes it just doesn't work right, even if you do it early.  Some vets aren't skilled at the procedure, plus you have to be really careful about keeping the ears taped up for anywhere from a few weeks to a few months afterward.  It's a lot of work and expense for the owner, and if everything doesn't go just exactly right, the dog can end up with stupid-looking ears for the rest of its life.  He could even get an infection in the cropped ears.  You and the dog -- but especially the dog -- are lucky that you put it off until it's too late.

Look up some of the boxer websites.  I easily found several sites where boxer owners and breeders talked honestly about what is involved.

I love my boxers with their floppy ears...!   Don't put your dog through the procedure, save the money for other things. Boxers don't need cropped ears to look majestic...they already are very beautiful dogs.
I agree with Blu.

I would venture to ask why you want to crop his cute, floppy ears???  I don't know how old they have to be for it.  I really just came to beg you to reconsider this unnecessary procedure.  - Blu
