Golden wont leave cats alone

I have a year old golden retriever who is very obnoxious. She is a good dog but does not leave my cats alone. As soon as I let her out of her kennel she chases after ours cats. Any time she sees a cat she chases it. I'm not worried about her hurting them but she does slobber on them and just wont leave them alone. I've tried to discipline her for this behavior by putting her in time out in her kennel but this doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?

How long have you had your Golden, and your cats? If you just let them be from the time they meet, usualy after a few weeks to a month or two they will learn their places, and either get along or leave eachother alone. =) But like Suzi-q says if your cats get a good swat at her, that should calm her down quite a bit. =) Unless she is trying to hurt them, don't interfere, that will just make the process of them getting along take longer. My old boss at the animal hospital I worked for has 8 dogs and 5 cats, so I'm speaking from experience here. lol Don't worry give it time. =)

The problem with Goldens (which is also a BIG PLUS) is that they stay puppies forever!  They are sweet, cuddly and slubbery!  I guess you just have to take the good with the bad.  If one of the cats gets a good swat at him, it might teach a lesson!

(I am more concerned about the dog than the cats!!-LOL)

One of my dogs used to do the same thing. We used to have gates up when they were puppies, so that the dogs had to stay in the family room and kitchen, and the cats could go in and out (they jumped the gate). She grew out if it, though. Since your dog is a year old now, she might start to calm down a bit too.
