HELP! My dog's sick

I have a mixed breed dog not really sure what kind it is. He weighs about 30 pounds. Just today he's been laying around all day and crying whenever im next to him. I tried picking him up and as soon as i touch him he lets out a high pitch cry. He stands up and walks around but sluggish with his tail down at times. He also has a slight body shake. He mostly cries when i touch towards the back of his body towards his back legs. What could he have? I want to see what he can have before i actually go to the vet tomorrow.

I'm sorry to put a dampener on this because it is good news that he seems much better. But I always thought it was inadvisable to give Advil (Ibuprofen) to dogs!

I presume the vet diagnosed arthritis? Or was it something else? Usually Rimadyl is given, but there are other anti-inflammatory/painkillers which are suitable for dogs.

If it is arthritis, do start him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin. It is extremely effective.

If I were you I would call your vet (you probably don't need to make an appointment to go to the office)....and question the use of Advil. Also you could ask about the Glucosamine.

hey all thanks for the replies. They told me to give him advil and other medicines throughout the day and night and we gave him pedialyte so he can stay hydrated. Today he seems really healthy again.. he walks around and my grandpa gave him a shower too. I think it's safe to say he is doing great again.

I think Ghilly has said it all. It would be a good idea if you took your dog straight in to see the vet, as soon as you can. A day is a long time to wait for a dog in real pain, which he obviously is.
This could be absolutely anything from a bad sprain to serious disc problem, or severe arthritis, or abdominal pain. It's impossible to say without examining him.

It's literally impossible to speculate as to what could be wrong with your dog.  You don't say how old he is, but the symptoms you describe say that he's in a great deal of pain, whatever it is.  I'm glad to hear that you are planning on taking him to the vet tomorrow, because that is the only suggestion I can make, and to tell the truth, if it were me, I wouldn't wait until tomorrow, I would be on my way to the emergency vet tonight.  From your description, your dog is suffering terribly and needs to be seen immediately.

Please post back when you return from the vet and let us know what the diagnisis is.
