Help… our Yorkie is congested

Hi there and Happy New Year to all. We have a little 2-year old Yorkie that weighs approximately 4 pounds. She has never had any health issues and has been the perfect dog however as of Saturday she has been honking, sneezing and seems to be congested.

Is there anything I should do or could do? Thank you.

A concerned Yorkie Mommy

Actually we are currently out of town however I did contact our Vet and she also said it could be kennel cough, which is odd since our dog is an indoor dog and is never around other dogs. She also said it could be a nasty cold...  since we cannot make it in right now she recommended I get some Benadryl and give her 1/2 teaspoon 3 times a day. Ever since we begun to give her the medicine she seems to have gotten much better. Nevertheless we will continue to monitor her and hopefully she continues to make progress if not we will definitely be visiting our Vet as soon as we get back in town. Thank you.

If she is badly congested, she needs to be examined by a vet ASAP.  She may need antibiotics to clear it up before it becomes something serious.  This year many parts of the country are experiencing some strange weather patterns, where it's freezing cold one day and two days later everyone is walking around in shorts again.  Dogs can get sick just as people can, and a tiny dog like a Yorkie, especially one as tiny as 4 pounds, can't be ill for very long before her whole body is affected and just says "I've had enough!"

Yes, you should get her to a Vet!!!!  She needs to be treated for a Upper Respiratory Infection before it turns into Pneumonia and becomes dangerous.....Good luck and let us know the outcome.  Karla
