I just picked up a female shih tzu from another family member who has had her for about 4 years. The dog was fine for about the first week then she started to welp a little and act like she was trying to push something out, I took her to get her shots from a mobile vet and they felt on her stomach to make sure she wasnt in labor and her stomach felt empty. This behavior is going on like every other day it lasts for about 15-20 mins then she is ok. she want someone to pet her when she is doing this. Can she just be home sick? I don't have the money right nw to take her to the vets I just need a little help to mabey figure out whats wrong with her.

I had her checked to see of she was pregnent because she was living with my sister-in-law that had a male shih tzu, her bowels are normal, She seems to be ok now. She is getting a bit more food now then she was. I'm going to get her checked out ths weekend. Thanks for the help.

Hard to tell what may be going on.  Could be any number of things.  Have you changed her food and what are you feeding? does she have regular bowel movements that are well formed? Does she seem to strain when she goes?  Do you see any blood, mucus or worms in her stool?  Why would they check to see if she is pregnant? Is there a chance she could be? I take it she is not spay?
Try to go over her from head to foot, slowly, including legs and hips to see if there are any sensitive areas that she favors or might make her yelp.  
Other than that it would not hurt to add some canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to her food and make sure she has adequate fluid intake.
Any chance she got into or ate something?  
Wish I could be of more help but if this continues or gets worse, she should probably have a Vet exam
