Mark i m very thankful to you for your kind and timely reply. i hsall the lotion:)
Allergies can be a nightmare in dogs. I had a lurcher that was allergic to many things, including animals fats and some textile fabrics. If it proves to be an allergy, your vet can provide hydrocortizone medication to help the situation. In many cases, you have to try changing one thing at a time to try to identify what it is causing the allergy, so tackling the food is an easy first option. Change the rice first (I'm assuming you are using boiled WHITE rice, not brown, as brown can cause many problems in dogs). If after a few days that doesn't change the itching, then return him to the rice and change the meat content for something like fish, which most dogs love and is easy on the stomach). You can buy frozen fish for dogs at your local pet store, just knife it into suitable sizes and cook for 10mins in the microwave). At some stage, add a supplement of fatty acids to your dog's food, as this also helps relieve allergies and itching. Your local pet store should be able to provide these supplements in capsule form.
As Mark has said, it could also be itching of the skin from it becoming too dry. There are various good dog shampoos for these conditions. I used to use one from the vet that was brilliant with my dog, but that was here in the UK. In the USA, there is a product called 'Itch Stop' that comes from Foster and Smith, which I have heard good things about. Its certainly worth a try. Good luck. Tony
It is possible the dog has dry skin and could use some lotion for pets to give him some relief. Sometimes it can be allergy too, then you can buy
some spray benedryl that worked pretty good for my dog. Since you
never mention fleas or ear mites, I would think your dog has dry skin,
like people get during the winter months.
