Thank you soooooooooooooo much.....my dog already had antibiotics so I was really getting worried! I love this little boy & would b lost w/out him!
The cough can last for quite a long time. As others have properly told you, if there is any other change for the worse, take them back to the vet. Otherwise, you may just wait it out.
Both my puppies showed symptoms of kennel cough about one week after bringing them home. It took weeks - and even months for my lil boy - for the cough to stop. As long as they are eating and drinking and are otherwise healthy, it's pretty much just a waiting game for it to go away.
If you notice any change in their appetite or activity, take them back to the vet. Otherwise, I think they are fine.
Thanks so very much. I thought this wasn't normal.
When I got my dog, she had to go through 3 courses of antibiotics to get rid of the cough. Just keep up with the meds and you will conquer the cough!!!!
My dogs are recovering from kennel cough too. One of my dogs got over the cough in just two days, but my other dog has had the cough since the second week of July. She just finished her antibiotics and prednisone and now she's on cough syrup, the pediatric robutussin, three times a day. She's still coughing, but not as much as last week.
I think it's just something you have to wait out. My vet told me that kennel cough is much more than just the cough, it affects their and suppresses their immune system drastically, making cough recovery a long time in some cases.
Just keep giving them their meds, and keep a close watch on them and take them to the vet again if you feel the need is that great.
