If anyone else is interested on the info I found for dog rescues, I used 1800saveapetdotcom. like petfinder. we found tons of dogs in our area and a lot of them were with rescues. we actually found so many puppies we couldnt believe it. we will be adopting a northern breed rescue since that is what we just lost. I could not be happier. the application process was extensive but we were glad they try to place the dog in the right home. :)
I am not able to do rescues at this time BUT.. a couple years ago I had been doing rescues for a few years and had worked at a Vet. Clinic doing everything from kennel cleaning to surgery assistance. I learned a lot. When I was a rescuer I also had to evaluate their behavior for adoptions. I was also a private obedience trainer. I love animals I currently have 3 dogs and a ferret. I would drive as far as needed to get the RIGHT home for any of my rescues. It was well worth it. There was a cost (I had no control over that part). I was the one that went to the Animal Control and had to choose which ones would not die that day. I took them home and had ALL spayed and neutered, all shots and treatments (if needed) were all given. They all got homes that I would have loved to have lived in myself. I had 13 cats, kittens, puppies and dogs all at one time. ALL BY MYSELF.

Why don't you look on petfinder dot com? You can enter your zipcode and do a search, it shows you dogs close by. You can even search by breed. Lots of rescues use it to advertise.
What part of PA are you in? I'm in MD below Gettysburg, doing rescue work. We get dogs out of high kill shelters in WV when their time is up. Send me a message if you want further info, because I can't easily post web addresses here.
Hi again, Sorry about that! I thought we could post addresses like that. I ment for you to use the website to find a pet. I thought others (in Chicago), might adopt a dog. But I reread that post I made and it was a bit confusing! Will you let everyone know if/when you find a dog? Also bless your heart, for giving a needy pet a good home. I'm with you too about Oprah, I hope she will donate too. I feel she will she has a big beautiful heart!!!
Your address was bleeped out. I actually have since found a few rescues in my area and we have appts to see a few dogs already. :) BTW, I had said PA not Chicago. I hope that Oprah also contributes $$ to rescues and is not just raising awareness. It's crazy how much you still have to pay to own a rescue dog.
Hello, I have a Pennsylvania website address : http://www.****.org I hope that helps. April 4th Oprah will have a show on puppy mills for anyone who would like to watch it. There will be an opportunity to adopt pets in the Chicago area. All dog lovers need to "Thank" Oprah for her concerns and care for animals. :o)
