My 8 yr. old dog is not eating and sore

I have a 8 yr. old PomPoo, that has had all her shots, and is a inside dog. About 2 days ago, she acted like she did not feel good. The next day, she acted like she could not bend her head down to the water bowl, so I held it up for her.   [still doing that] When I went to pick her up [bc she acted like she could not jump on the couch/bed] she yelped. I gave her 1/2 of a baby asprin this am about 4 hours ago, she seemed to be walking around, I carried her out to use the bathroom she did both. Her nose is wet and cold. She is now drinking, and just eats a little bit of a dog snack. What could be wrong with her??

Yes, as Misfit said, she needs x-rays. And not only the aspirin, but any pain killer can mask the source of the problem, and as with people, make you feel good enough to do more damage. Pain has a purpose, it is to tell you something is wrong and also tell you what 'not' to do.

And yes, the 'jumping' up and off has got to stop.

Hi Chelleb---Sounds like she has injured her back.....If it's a herniated disk, it is at risk of rupture....Normally happens when jumping off of furniture over a period of time.....She needs to be crated, only carried out to potty & back in until you can see your Vet....She will be given medications and possible crate rest until it heals....If it ruptures, she could be paralyzed, so it's not worth the risk to wait.....I've dealt with both sides of the spectrum....You also need pet stairs on beds and sofas & no more allowance of jumping on and off furniture....

It can be treated at this point....If the disk ruptures, the only treatment is an extensive, expensive emergency surgery within 36 hrs of the rupture...

Be cautious w/the aspirin...It can cause a gastric bleed with just one dose...

Keep her confined & call your Vet for an appointment as soon as you can....Let us know what you find out & good luck to her....
