My dog has swollen glands.

My dog went outside and ran off for a couple of hours.  When he came back he had a bite on his neck.  Went to the vet and he cleaned it and gave him some steroids to take and an ointment for his eye that was red and itching.  
That was two days ago.  Today he has glands all over his body that are swollen.  One on the side of his face, several on his back,and a sore swollen gland at the end of his rib on his right side.  He looks terrible and miserable.  What does he have.  What bit him?

It's hard to tell what he was bitten or stung by, but his symptoms suggest a severe allergic reaction, or a bacterial infection caused by the bite. The fact that he is miserable may mean he also has a fever and/or some pain. I wouldn't wait. I'd take him back to the vet, for blood tests, and a review of the situation.
If there is a double puncture-wound at the bite on his neck, it does sound like it could be a snake bite. That depends where you live. Are there snakes where you live?
But of course, any bite, whether from a rodent, other animal, or even an insect, can cause infection or an allergic reaction.
