My golden has seizured

My 14 1/2 year old golden Heather just recently started having grandma seizures.  Both seizures came on after she was stressed.  My vet put her on phenol and she doesn't do anything now except sleep.  She is having a problem with her rear limbs.  She can't seem to get up on her own...but once we get her up she is alright.  I want my sweet girl back.  She has been on the pheno for a week now.  Can anyone help me understand this as I am a basket case.

Thank you for your input...I did call the vet as it got to the point I couldn't get Heather awake after she would nap.  So the vet said to decrease the pheno by 1/2 and now she is doing much better.  She is hungry all the time now though and I read that is a side affect of the pheno.  We go back to the vet in the morning for another cbc to see where her kidney levels are at so sure would appreciate prayers for my sweet sweet golden girl.

It takes them a while to adjust to being on the meds.  You also have to remember that it takes a LOT out of them when they have a seizure, especially a grand mal seizure.  Phenobarbital is, even after all these years and the introduction of new anti-seizure drugs, the drug of choice for treating epilepsy in canines, so keep an eye on her and just see how it goes.  If you don't start to see a difference in her activity level and how she gets up and down within about another week, I would contact the vet and ask if perhaps s/he can adjust the dosage on the phenobarbital so that it doesn't hit her as hard.  She's probably taking a fairly large dose as a golden is a pretty large dog.  There is probably room to tone it down a bit, but don't do it on your own without first consulting your vet.  I think the problems getting up and down probably have a bit to do with her being a bit snockered from the medicine, and once her body gets used to having it on board all the time things will return to normal.  Please keep us up to date on how your sweet girl is doing.
