Pain meds for dogs?

Just wondering if anybody knows if dogs can have pain meds? (whether its specifically for animals or not) other than those distributed by a vet?

You can give aspirin but do NOT give ibuprophen(advil) as it can be liver toxic. Check with the vet as to the correct dosage. My 45 pounder took 1/2 tab a day before going on to need stronger meds from the vet. Also, check into this site with a question from me about arthritis meds and a lot of people gave some very good info about treatment. Maybe in April or around there. Best wishes.
