Penile Discharge From Dog

We have a 2 y/o American Bulldog- he was neutered when he was 6 months old. The last few days we've noticed some greenish/yellowish discharge coming from his penis. It's not a big amount but enough that we can notice if he's sitting. No loss of appetite, no trouble peeing, not sure about lethargy cause he's on restricted physical activity recovering from a sprained foot. He doesn't appear to be in any pain- ie- when we clean it he doesn't yelp or try to snap at us. He has an appointment next Tuesday to get his annual shots- I plan on telling the vet but is this something where I should call and try getting him in a little sooner. Based on the research I've done it points to a possible infection but I'm not a vet. Has anyone had this with a neutered dog? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I spoke with our vet today and she has said even with male dogs that kind of discharge can be normal. Since he isn't having any additional symptoms- lethargy, no appetite, trouble urinating or blood in the urine- she recommended waiting until our appointment on Tuesday. She has been our vet since I was a kid and I trust her. If there is still some discharge she said she is going to put him on some antibiotics. He does have the 3yr Rabies vaccination- and is going in for a different vaccination and to get his leg checked. He's a handful medically- he's had eye surgery for entropian, he has food allergies(no dairy, beef, corn, wheat). But he's well worth it. We knew this going in- we rescued him when he was only 4 months old. I will let everyone know what I find out. Thanks!

What was the verdict?
I have the same breed, same age, with the same issue.

I agree w/Tigger....IMO, any kind of discharge (From any area) that has a greenish tint is an infection....

Can you get a urine sample and go head and take it to your Vet to be analyzed? I wouldn't wait 5 days till your appointment....

If you find he does have an infection, DO NOT let them vaccinate him until he is well....Also, you might inquire about the 3 yr. Rabies Vaccine instead of yearly.....Much better for your furry friend....Just a thought....Let us know what you find out....Karla

Hello! We have a male and female Siberian Husky puppies we sadly need to re-home due to our busy schedules and we are in the process of moving. they are vaccinated and very healthy. there are almost 12 weeks old and potties outdoors but still currently being kennel trained. they eats raw organic dog food and gets along great with other dogs, even cats, and loves to run around and play with anything they can find! If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me. I will respond via email. Please keep in mind there is a re-homing. Serious inquiries only, thank you!.(913) 257-3154

sounds like it could possible by a urinary tract infection, good idea to get him to the vet before it goes to his kidneys
