I have VPI pet insurance and have always broken even ea. year at the very least if not on some years having been exceptionally glad I have it!  Oh how I wish I had it when she almost died from pyometra at the tender age of only 1.5yrs old ..cost $1,200 for the surgery and I would have gotten back $900!!!!  So after that we got the insurance .. and she is now covered for her eye condition which requires $37/mo on meds + 2X yr visits to the vet for the keratitis dry autoimmune dry eyes .. it cost hundreds to diagnose and was all covered!!

With cancer care coverage for a 5yr old ShihTzu it costs about $30/month.  Goes by type of breed, age and are exclusions .. ACL is not covered for first 12mos of policy.  Look into exclusions and the fine print.

They pay within 6 weeks usually and good cust. service.

Just my 2 cents,

Cheryl

You don't have to pay a deductible.  Maybe I'll do a google to see if it's available outside the USA.

That's a cute little shih tzu you have.  Have you ever tried the website Uniteddogs.com?  It's free and it's fun. We've been using it and are enjoying it   = )

The ASPCA has pet insurance.  The money generated from it goes towards caring for other animals.  You could try a Google search.  We have it and am glad we do.  It has saved a lot of money for things we couldn't afford without it.  Payments depend on the age and condition of the animal - Pet Insurance doesn't pay for pre-existing conditions.  Also, there are different "packages" you can get that range from basic coverage to almost everything, including dental.  If you have a multi-pet household it's good to have.  There is a deductible, depending on the "package" but it's worth it.  We pay less than $100/mth for four dogs.

Hope you find something suitable.

You can also call around to some vet offices to see which they deal with and their opinions on them too.....

There are quite a few. With many different type plans/prices. depending on age of pet and what you want.
I don't have it myself but am looking into it. With all they can do for our babies these days, it's wonderful, but the costs can be horrific. So, in my experience yes, it's worth it.
I would also look up the sites that rate products and such....like epinions etc.. if you just put in something like "ratings on pet insurance" etc.. it should bring links up.

Good luck in your search!
Take care, Teresa ; )
