Phenobarbitol side effects - need advice

Hi. I need some advice please. I just called my vet's office to get a refill on my small spitz's phenobarbitol. She has been on 15 mg twice a day and the vet just upped it to one and a half tablets at night instead of the original 15 mg. I had called to ask if he could give me some 7.5 mg tablets as cutting these small pills in half was difficult. When I got to his office, the prescription had been changed to 30 mg twice a day. My dog is just beginning to recover from the half pill increase. The receptionist told me that the vet gave me the increase so I didn't have to cut any pills in half. I am worried that another increase in the medication might set my dog back on her lethargy and coordination problems along with her being weak and staggering. I think I will cut this tablet in half and just give her what the vet originally prescribed. My dog also has developed a heart murmur and is taking Enalapril at night. My dog, Comet, is an 18 - 20 lb Spitz. She was on phenobarbitol successfully for 3 months before she had an increase of seizures. What is the general feeling here about doubling her dosage when we just less than a week ago increased her dosage? I just don't know what to do here.

Well I haven't gotten any advice but I am thinking that keeping her on the recently upped dosage (less than a week ago the vet upped the dosage to attempt to control the seizures that were happening more frequently). I am thinking that keeping her on the recently upped dosage and not increasing the dosage again in less than a week was the right decision. She is coming out of her medication reaction somewhat and beginning to show her personality again. I can't help but think that there was some kind of miscommunication here with the vet. I will call and talk to him next week. I have to schedule time in another week for a blood test. If anyone has an opinion here, I would love to hear it.
