Post Neutering question!

I just had my dog neutered on Wednesday morning. Ever since then (he ate that night) he has been having diarrhea. Its really runny and he's going pretty often. Has anyone that has had their dog neutered experienced this? I know its pretty common for stomach upset, but its really watering and a reddish color. Were not sure if its blood or not though. I called the humane society where we had it done and they said that it could be the stressed from the surgery or it could be a parasite thats flourished in this stressful time. He's a 3 year old pekingese and I want to make sure he's okay. They recommended seeing a vet, but if its just stressed it should pass soon. What should I do? Should I just wait another day or so and see if it goes away or should I call my vet and get him in?

I took him to the vet on saturday and the vet basically blamed me. I brought in a stool sample and they studied it and said what you said about the red and mucous. I mentioned about how my boyfriend bought the wrong food on accident a few weeks ago and he said that would be a good reason his stomach is messed up...from a few weeks ago? whatever! Then he did ANOTHER stool sample and decided I need to fee him special wet food that was almost 3$ a can and he gave me 6 ...The visit was more then 100$ to tell me he'll be fine. I was so mad...lol...I wish I would have just watched him another day or two because he started the food yesterday and his stools are solid now...So it was kind of a waste but at least I know he's okay now. Thanks for the info...I wish I knew all of that!

Anesthesia can make their bowel movements a red orange color and mucousy. As long as he's eating and drinking, just keep an eye on him for a few more days- he should be fine. Check his hydration by pulling up the skin on the back of his neck- if it snaps right back down then all is well, if it tents and stays up and is really slow going down then he needs more fluids. If you want to take his temp as well dogs are normal from 101-102.5..Sometimes anesthesia can give them a fever. If its high then take him to your vet. If he's still having diarrhea in a few days then get a stool sample and take it in. My guess is he's just recovering from surgery. Good luck :)
