Puppy troubles

Puppy troubles

I bought a 9 week old male Teacup Yorkshire Terrier puppy weighing at around a pound. I realize Teacup is not a standard weight, it is actually not optimal for health at all, but I say it for the sake of being specific.  He seemed quite inactive when we saw him on the first visit, but my mother and I were still very interested in the puppy and bought him regardless on the second. He has been with us for about 4 days and hardly eats at all. He only ate twice, on the first and second day, but very small amounts. When I first got him, I had to administer the food by keeping my hand cupped around his mouth with a kibble or two. He would take it and then eat a bit more by himself out of a dog dish; however, now he won't even take it from my hand at all no matter how persistant I am. Soaking the dry food in a dash of water didn't help at all either. I try about every two hours to accomplish this, but to no avail.  I suspect the issue could be related to poor weaning, but I'm certainly no vet so I'm not certain.

He also throws up quite often, but I have another dog (9 year old female Pure Toy Fox Terrier/Pure Rat Terrier mix) who I raised as a child and also threw up quite often (and still does..).  I expect it in a puppy, but Mikko (the Yorkie) does so about 2-3 times a day.  It was brown and slightly oozy all the days up until this afternoon, when it came as a yellow liquid with little particles of what I can assume is food remains.  My only solace is that he energizes when he sees my other dog and he drinks normally.  I let him urinate every hour to two hours on a puppy pad and that works fine as well.

I am not sure if I am just being paranoid, but I do worry as this puppy is a high-risk breed at his weight.  I am hesitant to take him to the vet as my family is in the midst of closing on a new home, but I certainly will soon as he does need the care being a young puppy.  If someone could offer any insight or suggestions, I'd appreciate it greatly. I'd love to feel more secure about this.

Thank you,

Aina

Your puppy needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately.  If you bought him from a reputable breeder, some of the associated costs should be paid for by the breeder, or he/she may offer you a new puppy.
(which I know isn't a good solution if you have already given your heart to this puppy, but sometimes is the only practical solution).

In any event, the puppy needs to go to the vet right away.  You are right to be concerned.  Things can go downhill in a heartbeat with a puppy this tiny.  If your own vet isn't open, you do need to go to an emergency vet.
