Margot wrote some really good questions, all of which a good dog parent can know and address with a licensed vet!

I had an eighty-five pound golden retriever who got really sick when he was six. All tests were negative and after a couple of days in the hospital, I decided to go part time with my consulting job, pick him up and take him home. He threw up and had diarrhea everywhere before I took him in to the hospital. They rehydrated him, but could find no reason for his illness.

I sat on the floor and held him for hours. I lived near a city park that had frequent rains that year. The feeling that I got was that he might have eaten part of a soaked tennis ball in the park and that he would pass it soon and to just care for him. I never had a dog, I was lost.

Then I started boiling chicken because I thought that he'd like the smell. I would feed him small cooked boiled chicken by hand at first, cool enough to put in my own mouth. Over the next few hours, I boiled down the chicken bones in a large pot of filtered water, placed the soup into the fridge. When cooled, I could add the soup to his regular dogfood, which he always ate instantly!

Heat for one minute at 30 per cent power in the microwave. Test on your pinkie or wrist!

The retriever lived for fourteen years of age with no health problems. We were never the same; I learned my lesson!

A little more information? How old is the puppy and what are you feeding? Us it acting sick? Any vomiting, diarrhea or lethargy?  You have to make sure the pup is taking in liquids.  Has it been Vet checked and vaccinated? Has it been wormed?
