Scabby Skin

My black lab has recently developed a couple patches of scabby skin on his tummy and behind. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. We did get new food about a month ago and we tried to feed it to him he ate some but not as mch as he should so we switched it back and noticed these popping up.

My lab is 11 and this is on his belly he never had hair there before so it's nothing cuz by this. He is very unaffected by this so I don't want to put him through tons of testing if it's just from food. We tried a store brand of mature dog food which everyone gave great reviews and said it was as good  as the national one. My dog didn't think so we are back to feeding him iams natural which our vet told us to use years and years ago. Other then this patch he is very health dog for his age.

I just read about Simon's Happy Pet Shampoo. It was invented by an 11 year old boy who tried to find a good and safe dog shampoo and after doing some research made his own for his dog Calypso. I believe the website is http://SimonsHappyPet.com

I hope this helps.

Welcome....How old is your lab? This doesn't look anything like normal dry skin to me.....In your photo, where is this patch & how large is it? There seems to be thinning hair all around this lesion.....Is this the tummy or the rear?

What are you feeding??? What food did you try?

Can you get another photo from further back?

I personally think this looks serious and needs to be addressed by his Vet.

Let us know....Thanks, Karla

Where do you live is it a warm climate or is it wintery? It could be from the harsh cold or even scabies which usually dose start on the belly and backside. It's a rash from this little mite like bug lives under the skin. And it can be really contagious. If you do live in a colder climate then scabies is less likely.

If it's just a dry skin rash I would get some doggy foot pad moisturizer I have this I (heart) Pet Head oatmeal paw butter it's made for dogs so it's totally safe to use and for them to lick off. I use it all the time on my dog's it seems to help them and it smells and tastes pretty good.

But I would call my vet first just in case.
